Re: Same sex marriage debate...

I guess once the yes vote gets up and equality is achieved, the "Gay Mardo Gras" can become just "The Mardi Gras", and in the spirit of equality Hetero's can join in to celebrate their straightness. I also think the LGBTIQ term is a little outdated. Perhaps it can be changed to something that we ca...

Re: Same sex marriage debate...

The guy has said it had nothing to do with being a Yes voter, he's just always hated him. That's why he was wearing a SSM vote Yes badge. Purely coincidental, it was a crime of opportunity. Note the obscene haste Brandis came out to deny he is a SSM supporter. Well he can hate Abbott AND be ...

Re: Same sex marriage debate...

I may have missed something here. Doesn't the government always passes "mystery" legislation? Have you ever had an early look into proposed legislation before you voted for your MP or any referendum or plebiscite or survey? Do politicians ever develop ready-made legislation before they have a manda...

Re: Same sex marriage debate...

If the Government is not willing to put sufficient free-speech protections in place, and they have indicated they are not, then i will be voting no for my governement to pass this mystery legislation that they couldnt be botherd putting together before taking to the people. I dont think there is an...

It's a forum - a lot of threads are like this. Why you feel the need to tip a bucket of crap on everyone is something only you'd know.

Why not get the stocks out too? Probably a simple assault charge will suffice. Dop...

Re: Same sex marriage debate...

I don't understand your opening paragraph. When did I say any of those things? If your argument is that until gay marriage is allowable we don't know what will happen, I don't buy it. Any of the things you talk about would require further legislation or be covered under existing law. Amending the M...

Re: Same sex marriage debate...

Well as I understand it, if they were legally the opposite sex at the time of the marriage they're sweet. If one makes the switch they're still married and because the legislation doesn't let gay divorce they're stuck together unless they go overseas If the government does not approve of gay marria...

Re: Same sex marriage debate...

By the same token you can't state that things that occurred overseas under different legislative frameworks will definitely or probably occur in Australia or how any of this is directly linked to SSM rather than part of a broader shift towards tolerance of gays and lesbians. You've put forward exam...

Re: Same sex marriage debate...

Okay well let's deal with the public servants. Nobody is going to be fired from the APS for "believing in traditional marriage". That's a non-starter. If a public servant refused to perform some action due to personal beliefs in Australia they'd most likely be transferred but at the end of the day ...

Re: Same sex marriage debate...

As an aside about the contractor being shafted over her religious beliefs, how do people feel about businesses being run by Plymouth Brethren that exclusively hire people from within the faith? If I were qualified and looked over merely for my atheism are we OK with that or is that wrong? Well for ...

I've mentioned them already a few times and don't intend on doing it each time someone new asks me the question. No offence intended to you specifically. If by fear mongering you mean raising awareness of what is going to happen based on factual events that have happened elsewhere, then guilty as c...
