Just saw the new logo and new name on fox sports.
Geez - the bombers - much better than the options but why the 'BB' thing? All names proposed involve the Brisbane B's..

A Brisbane-based expansion bid team is hoping to take off in the NRL from 2013 as the Bombers.

Brisbane Bombers
Bold … Brisbane Bombers set to take flight.

The bid team has called a media conference on Thursday morning to reveal their name and colours but it's understood they will play as Brisbane Bombers if they get the green light from the new NRL commission, tipped to be up and running soon.

Several potential names had been suggested by 12,000 fans including Braves, Bayliners and Barracudas, before market research highly recommended Bombers.

While the name is certain to rile AFL officials and especially Essendon fans who claim 'the Bombers' is their property, there are already instances of cross-over names with Tigers and Bulldogs clashing.

The name Brisbane Bombers was registered with ASIC on July 5 but bid chairman Craig Davison would not confirm if it was the name the team would adopt.

The team's logo will feature a bomber pilot and wings with the name Bombers across the top of his aviator cap and goggles.

Is a second Brisbane team really needed, it was tried before and failed. The only upside would be it could limit the free reign the Broncos seems to have up there. A team in Perth would be better value if the NRL is looking to spread to a true national comp IMO.

I doubt the Nrl would give them a license if the Nrl wants to grow the brand why would u put another team in the same area which another team occupies that is silly give the licenses to other areas like Perth, Adelaide, or central qland

do u think the sth qld crushers failed or was it more that the superleague war killed them. if 2 more teams come into the nrl it will probably be brisbane bombers and perth reds. i dont think there was an adelaide bid

i hope the central coast gets a team, but its looking less likely.
although it depends. there is a case for expansion into non-traditional areas, but at the right time.

brisbane's bid seems to have some big names (and money) behind it.

i think the traditional/non-traditional area expansion is a better bet. we dont want to be in the situation of the A-League.

brisbane and perth would probably fit this bill - unless the perth bid is financially flawed.

I am all for a Perth and second Brisbane team. Bombers is a [This word has been automatically removed]ing shit name but, gotta be something better out there.

there should be, but these are the pearlers that the 'fans' gave them.

"Several potential names were suggested by 12,000 fans including Braves, Bayliners and Barracudas, before market research strongly recommended Bombers."

What about something more Aussie such as: the Brisbane Belters or the Brisbane Banana Benders or the Brisbane Bushman or the Brisbane Boozers.

Geez, I might be in the wrong job. They are great suggestions.

dont like the brisbane bombers name. wouldve preferred if they got the brisbane heat but the twenty/20 team up there beat them to the punch. id prefer to see the bears back in the comp on the central coast (this seems more n more unlikely unfortuntately) and a perth team

If sydney can have 9 teams then brisbane could do with 1 more.

But i hope the bears get a crack at it as well.

If the nrl are going to expand i hope they dont 5 years later say we need to cut teams.

Dont care about the name but at first everytime i hear it i will think of essendon.

They should base the team out of Beaudesert. That way they can base the theme song off a tune everbody there already knows, the Cash Converters advert song

Terrible Name, could well ruin a club that has amazing potential. The Broncos get the best crowds by a long way, a second team there is a no brainer.

I guess their major signing can be Johnny 'Bomber' Morris.

Report on fox sports website says the alternative name considered was the 'River City Kookaburras'.

I like that better. But it isnt very tough.

Well the chairman's son is a pilot so fits in well. Heard they are going to be playing a stones throw from the breakie creek which is always good place for a post game beer. With a couple of Aussie rugby union boys thrown in. Cant wait for the festivities!!

I hate the name, the AFL would be laughing with them picking that name and to be honest, I'm not even sure if the NRL will allow it. At a time when both codes are in a battle with each other, the last thing the NRL will want is any reference to the AFL whatsoever.
Also, there is already the Brisbane Broncos, so why have another team there called Brisbane with just the bombers on the end?
It reminds me of the days when we had the Sydney Bulldogs, the Sydney Tigers as well as the Sydney City Roosters.

geez Bob. i reckon thats a scoop on why they went for the bombers rather than the kookaburras.

Did u see the stunt they did on the footy show with the bomber jackets and aviator sunglasses?
If they had mentioned the words 'our brand manager' one more time I would have spewed.
