Team plays better under pressure

Wests Tigers Captain Robbie Farah admits his team plays better under pressure - especially at this time of the year.

Heading into tomorrow’s Round 19 clash against Penrith at Campbelltown Sports Stadium, Wests Tigers find themselves in ninth place but just two wins outside the top four. It is a must win game for Wests Tigers against the 15th placed Panthers.

“We've just got to win. Not only for the confidence but also to keep in touch with the top eight. We're out of the eight now, so we've got to keep winning to stay in touch,’’ Farah said.

"We've just got to keep winning. We were sitting there pretty nice after seven wins in a row, but we took our foot off the pedal.

“We've had three losses in a row now and find ourselves back out of the eight. For us, we've just got to keep winning. For some reason, we find ourselves in this position every year. We're sitting about eight and eight, or seven and nine, and we're forced to win some games towards the back end of the year to finish strong. But we've done it in the past and hopefully we can do it again this year."

Farah said his team-mates had worked on their attitude to defence after conceding 112 points in the past three games.

“You don't concede near 40 points a game three weeks in a row, after we've defended so well,’’ he said.

“We're working hard on that, we know we can do it, it's a matter of going out there and putting the work that we do at training onto the field. That's an area we definitely need to improve."

Farah added that the seven game winning streak the team enjoyed was put down to having the right attitude and confidence.

“Earlier in the year, we lost five in a row, and confidence was down. We had a couple of ugly wins, a couple of tight ones there, one-pointers against Parra and the Gold Coast,’’ he said.

“Then we started to improve, and obviously the last few weeks, injuries, a few different circumstances - I guess myself being in and out of the team through Origin, as well as other guys - we lost Siro, and Gareth, Matty Utai's been in and out of the team, Tim Moltzen.

“It doesn't help when you're chopping and changing with your key players. Hopefully we can get a bit of consistency there with an injury-free run, and keep the same team on the park. I'm sure that will help."

Farah joined Penrith Captain Kevin Kingston at Campbelltown Sports Stadium today to promote the match and the PCYC Cup the two teams will be playing for.

Panthers on the Prowl student Jack Barrett won a competition to design the PCYC Cup which honours the hard work and dedication of the PCYC in the communities surrounding both NRL clubs, giving local kids and adults alike a place to go and get involved in something different.

Wests Tigers won the PCYC in round 7 with a 30-0 victory.

Yes, definitely. It's a Wests Tigers phenomenon. It's got me baffled but it true. It's a good thing.

Don't you think that this is a problem that needs to be rectified, Robbie?

the best thing that can happen is for Penrith to score first, that way we won't do our usual, " oh look how good we are, we are doing it easy" then we turn to s*** for 60 mins and lose at the death.

If Penrith score first but we score next ill be jumping on us to win it at the back end.

Wouldn't it be nice to sitting on 11-5 and sitting pretty at this time of year , just for something completely different

Perhaps we can aim for that next year and not be whinging about injuries , suspensions and the like

Robbie is busting his gut at the moment so he's not exactly accountable for our position Flip. Questions need to be asked of others though.

In our last three games we've scored first, and we know how they panned out..,

Not blaming Robbie, CB - no way! Just putting the question out there, he just happened to be the one who made the comment.
