Mullaney

Post by milford_magic » Mon 06 Aug, 2012 10:42 pm

He does some good things, he does some bad.

While I think Sheens is an absolute idiot for not at least giving him a go when we had no recognised fullback for two years, I don't think this one we will overly regret in the long. He's a great support player, and reads the game well, but when he's taking a general run he just gets belted and he just seems to small and his defence is pretty non existent.

I agree, he played ok, and is ok.
You cant keep them all and we have better prospects then him IMO

Had we kept him, id also been ok with that.

I think the reality is and was Tedesco is a better prospect then Mullaney and we couldn't keep both

That is not and never was the reality. Mullaney should have been given a shot at the WT before Tedesco had even reached SG Ball. This whole argument that Sheens chose Tedesco over Mullaney is a crock. Sheens chose everyone over Mullaney including Mitch Brown, who we know Sheens never rated. I agree that we won't be upset long term but he was overlooked when he should have been given a shot and who knows how good he will end up. I think he has massive upside and has an amazing ability to score. If he works hard in the off season he could become special.

The thing with Mullaney is that when he was at WT he was still twig thin and not gaining size and out of his depth defensively at BRET and also lost all confidence taking the high ball.

Do I think he is better than Moltzen? Yes. But not by much and I have a low opinion of Loltz.

He will do some great things at times but cannot hold a candle to the current crop of outside backs we have coming through and, as with Simona, Meaney is a far better fullback than either

Let's face it, he scored two tries against us, and Sheens has egg all over his face. Again.

I think Mullaney got exposed a bit last night.

Yeah the kid can score tries.

But his defense was....... well. We have all said it before on here. He was turnstiled a few times in defense, Ayshford ran through him to setup Utai, and when Moltzen went over for his try, Mullaney made ZERO effort to get out from behind the Parra 12 to get to him.

He was also a spectator to a two of Koro's Tries, and was a DON'T ARGUE in another.

Bag Moltzen all we want, he made a one on one tackle on a rampaging Moi Moi to save a try, and on other occasions through the year has made some brave defensive plays. (Yes I know he's crap at catching bombs)

Call it egg on MY face, But at the moment he's our best option back there. Beau had one great game at Fullback against the storm, but Moltzens consistency has been getting better, and Beau is better services either in the centres or on the wing.

Is Jake's mother penning a letter to the Macarthur Chronicle complaining that Marika wouldn't give her son a fair chance to tackle him?

...maybe, that's why he was let go, that's not the question.

the question is why he was not given a fair go ahead of mckinnon, moltzen, brown etc.

I agree he did earn his shot with some Stella performances in the 20's good luck young man.

I think Mullany was off the radar even before Tedesco came on the scene. Mullany had been idling in NYC and NSW cup since 2009 and never really got a look into FG. I'm pretty no one even knew about Tedesco before 2011

I agree, he had a stella year in 09, kind of came from no where (well I didn't see it coming anyway)
Nothing much in '10 in NYC, and struggled in the games i saw for BRET....

Had he of got a crack, id been ok with it, but I can see why he didn't.

You cant keep everyone, and I reckon with our juniors we have got it right more often then not
