ISP Team Announcement: Round 20
Author Dan Talintyre Timestamp Tue 24 Jul 2018, 04:01 PM

Western Suburbs Magpies Intrust Super Premiership Coach Brett Hodgson has named his side to take on Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles for their Round 20 clash.

Kickoff for the match is at 12:45pm AEST on Saturday, July 28 from Lottoland.

Live coverage of the match is available via FOX League as Western Suburbs look to bounce back from a run of three straight defeats and keep their hopes at a top four finish alive with five games to play.

Hodgson's side showed glimpses of the form that had them primed for a potential minor premiership push in a last start defeat to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, but they'll need to improve on their defence this week as they take on a Sea Eagles outfit who sit just one point outside the top eight.

Western Suburbs did get the win when these two teams met earlier in the year at Leichhardt Oval, but will field a very different looking lineup this weekend with several players unavailable for selection.

Malakai Watene-Zelezniak's inclusion on the wing sees Lucas Price move to the centres in place of Toni Tali, while Jacob Liddle is also a key return after missing last week's loss with illness.

Joseph Ratu and Cowen Epere start in the front row with both Tim Grant and Oliver Clark unavailable, while 2018 Development squad forward Sam McIntyre starts in the back row alongside Chris McQueen.

Jersey Flegg players Ben Seufale, Alex Seyfarth and Connelly Lemuelu have been named on the bench.

Where did all the talent go
Fonua - injured
Grant - injured
Sue - 1st grade
Garner - 1st grade
Rochow - 1st grade
Felise - released
Drinkwater - released
Lolohea - injured
Milne - released
Suli - released

...it's a very different roster of players available. At least I won't be as disappointed in them when they turn out terrible performances now.

That's what happens when you remove 10 players from the reserve grade roster. If the NRL side is plucking the best of the rest from ISP, then ISP is reaching down into Ron Massey Cup.

I think you’ll find that ISP reach down into Flegg

Yep, a very weak lineup.

They're lucky that the finals is ISP is 8 out of 12 teams (utterly ridiculous). If it were a top 6 they'd miss out compeltely

Where is Lolohea - nothing to indicate he is injured.

Doesn't matter - nobody wanted him here anyway.

Hopefully some of the guys stepping up make the most of their chance.

Injury toll really shows in ISP

Watched them quite a few times this season and have to say they have been pretty poor, especially since losing Drinkwater. The NRL players that have graced their side have rarely stood out as a cut above the mediocre rest. In most of the games they have lost, the opposing halves have been far better than ours and opposition has had more desire to win. It wasn't as if the teams they have lost to have been stacked with well known, tried and true NRL players either, just guys who are having a dig. Last week the Dogs made them look ordinary and their roster isn't great.
Sure the list of players that have moved on, or are injured certainly has weakened them, but that happens in every club, with some clubs suffering an injury list worse than ours. So is Hodgo struggling to get them up for each game? Or, is it just that we have very little talent coming through? From what I have seen, top 30 listers such as Liddle, Rochow, McQueen, Tui, MWZ, Godinet, and Gamble have all looked well below par on most occasions.
