The Mole: Wests Tigers chasing Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
By The Mole

The Wests Tigers are set to enter the battle to sign Warriors and Kiwi Test ace Roger Tuivasa-Sheck for 2019.
Still filthy at losing star fullback James Tedesco to the Roosters, the Tigers have identified Tuivasa-Sheck as the ideal man to replace him.
WWOS revealed last week that Tuivasa-Sheck is not happy at the Warriors, with Souths showing interest in him once his contract expires at the end of the upcoming season.

The All Blacks have also expressed a desire to sign the quick-stepping fullback and will make him a handsome offer to switch codes.
Tigers coach Ivan Cleary is likely to start 2018 with another former Warrior, Tui Lolohea, at fullback, but there are concerns he lacks the maturity and experience for such a key position.

The versatile Lolohea is a class act - but the Tigers know he is better suited to either centre or wing, hence their interest in Tuivasa-Sheck.

I don’t know how true this is but an interesting read anyhow

I've heard some crazy things in my time.....

Lolohea would be a good centre almost takes the cake.
People just want o move players into the centre and think problem solved. It is a specialist position and needs someone with experience to play there. Not just you are a centre this week, be a Lyon or Cooper until we move you elsewhere.

Tui is a 5/8 and Full back - nothing else at this stage, sure you could put him in the centre or on the wing but you would have a very ordinary player in those positions.

Maybe he is not RTS before the season starts but he could be after it does. I have seen him play full back and he is very good, a better defender in that position than RTS imo.
Behind a good pack and with Brooks, Reynolds and Liddle to run off he could be a 2018 sensation.

Personally I don't think we need RTS nor the amount we would have to pay him. I would rather a marquee player in a position that we need to strengthen than a slightly better FB.
Spot on.

I think we see how we go in every position this year before rushing out to sign a supposed marquee player. We have 4 players in the spine who we have no idea how they are going to perform and we may need to replace any or all of them.

We need to look at building a quality footy team not rushing out to sign a player who may or may not add a lot to this team especially if the player he is replacing may not fit into another position.

I can honestly see us trotting out

1. RTS
6. Reynolds
7. Cleary
9. Liddle

In 2019. The RTS rumblings just won't go away...

Fat chance of signing both of them. I’d happily settle for one.

Can't see us beating the All Blacks for his signature. Every Kiwi kid dreams of playing for the All Blacks at some stage in their life.

Looking forward to seeing Tui have a crack at fullback. A full off season is going to do him the world of good.

We have the cap room for both in 2018 and 2019. Assuming we have 750k left over from this year Grant, Kev, Marshall, Lawrence, Brooks and Sue being let go would provide plenty of cap space along with others to resign players and get two marquee players in. We are not the Roosters though seem to struggle with big name players.

Maybe in the past but with N Cleary a 80% chance of coming, why wouldn't you want to come if you were RTS?

Wonder how Lolohea would feel about that , stuck behind the same player that replaced him at the Warriors and the main reason he left
I reckon as long as he's still in first grade he won't be too upset. Cause don't forget, he wasn't just playing in his non-preferred position, he was also playing it in reserve grade.
I guess I can't see the use of signing a bloke mid season and then risk losing him 18 months later , its not like the EPL where you have to worry about getting demoted to a lower league

I guess wouldn't you have saved the money for a marquee signing instead of some tiny short term gain

He could very well be an 80% chance of not coming to us. The appeal of not playing under his father could be there. And anyone naive enough to think the Roosters won’t make a play when Cronk will have just retired has rocks in their heads.

Roosters might have a play at N Cleary, but M Morgan is off contract at the same time as well. I also believe they will have a big go at Mansour and with the addition of Crichton along with all the star players they currently have on their books, surely they can't be left with much cash to go after Cleary or Morgan. But then again, they don't have a salary cap...
