ESL/Rugby/State Cup Options?

Post by tigertye » Tue 16 May, 2017 9:53 pm

Hi all,

Just wondering if there's any players out there who people have a strong opinion of and believe could make the transition to the NRL and be solid pick ups for the Tigers from either state cup/under 20's comps, ESL or Rugby?

These could include players like Fonua/Thompson (rumoured already) who've gone over and may want to return for an opportunity. Decent players sometimes appear to get forgotten once they leave.

We've seen Canberra have some success with imports recently with some really astute, low cost/high reward signings.

There are also some decent players running around in the state cup competitions waiting for a chance to step up. With clubs extending rosters to a top 30 next year now is as good a time as any to get a few players who might complement that roster and overall depth.

Interested to hear people's thoughts on who they would take a look at as we tend to focus on the 'well known/big' names but there is plenty of talent out there waiting in the wings?

Chris Hill and Alex Walmsley - ESL props
Ben Currie and Liam Farrell - ESL 2nd rowers
Matt Parcell - ESL hooker (was at Manly last season)
Kato Ottio - Mounties ISP winger
Sione Katoa - Sharks NYC winger
Greg Lelesiuao - Eels NYC winger
Patrick Herbert - Dragons ISP centre
Cameron Cullen - Blacktown ISP 5/8
Dylan Edwards - Penrith ISP fullback
Jayden Nikorima - Wyong ISP 5/8
Jesse Ramien - Newtown ISP centre

...there are stacks of interesting options out there.

Always liked Parcell as a hooker. Played fast. Surprised he went over so early in his career.

Kallum Watkins, Liam Farrell and John Bateman would be worth having a crack at. There's plenty of good poms running around in the ESL that would be worth having a look at.

In terms of Rugby are there any good AB's that are on the outer or maybe towards the end of their career who could still offer something for a few years? Israel Dagg maybe
