Tui Lolohea heading to Super League champions Leeds for 2019 season

New Zealand international Tui Lolohea appears destined to be wearing a Leeds Rhinos shirt in 2019.

League Express revealed on Monday that the Wests Tigers pivot was destined for Super League next season, having secured a release from the NRL side to restart his career in England.

That story detailed that a leading English side had won the race to land his services – and TotalRL can now reveal that side is the reigning Super League champions.

Lolohea was initially seen as a fullback at Wests, but the signings of Corey Thompson from Widnes and Moses Mbye from Canterbury have pushed him down the pecking order at the NRL side.

And the Rhinos have signed Lolohea with the intention of playing him at stand-off: a role he is not completely unfamiliar with in recent times.

He played every game of last year’s World Cup for Tonga in the halves, and is likely to be a direct replacement for Joel Moon who, according to reports, is set to return to Australia and chance his arm in the NRL in 2019.

The move is a significant acquisition for the Rhinos, who could yet find themselves in the Qualifiers this summer. They are ninth, two points adrift of Huddersfield in eighth, with three games remaining.

I’m a Lolohea fan and really thought that he would make a go of it at fullback but it hasn’t worked out and he obviously sees better opportunities to play elsewhere. He’ll end up being one of those players who bounces from club to club.
In reserve grade....
Yes he'll spend a fair chunk of his career in reserve grade or England

Bus has blown a couple of tyres and Ivan has asked a couple of players to hop off while the new wheels are being fitted
I wonder how long it's going to take before Ivan has the new tyres fitted
I hope Ivan is waiting for some brand new Pirelli's to be fitted this time and not second hand used ones
You can only buy from whats for sale at the shop at the time.

I have said repeatedly that this year would be difficult as the team was filled of players from all walks with different motivations finding themselves here.

Cohesion and combinations were always gonna be difficult to maintain across the season.

Did we pay overs?? Im thinking McQueen, Matalino, Packer, Reynolds and Mbye.... Maybe a little.

We seem to be doing enough to balance that

You're right.
Lolohea is up there tho.
Massive disappointment throughout his entire career.

Sadly this is becoming apparent.

I really thought he’d make the most of this opportunity. He is sooo capable. But there is something not right. I’m not going to call him out because I don’t know why / but he lacks something to reach his potential in NRL.

Many many many talented players don’t make it for heaps of reasons. Good luck to him

Wests Tigers have today confirmed that Tuimoala Lolohea will depart the club at the end of the 2018 season.

Lolohea has been released from the final year of his playing contract to take up a long-term option with Leeds Rhinos in Super League.

The 23-year-old joined Wests Tigers midway through the 2017 season and has played 23 games for the club since then, scoring five tries.

Wests Tigers would like to thank Tuimoala for his ongoing commitment to the club, and wish both he and his partner Fallon well in the future.

Its been a while since ive been as disappointed with a player as this guy. In the end ill just say he didnt suit the culture we are trying to create.

Dont let the door hit you on the way out.
Its an opinion!

He will probably do well at 5/8 in the Super League, hope it works out for him.

Good that he was released so we arnt paying anything as I think he was on a pretty decent contract with us.

That is the best bit, we rid ourselves of this lazy disinterested player, and we can spend the money on someone who will have a real go

Curtis Sironen Robbie Farah and many many others were also released and our now very own Moses Mbye were also released from playing contracts..does not mean the respective former Clubs aren't carrying freight..

Wasn't that the reason we released him to an ESL club as NRL clubs wanted us to pay some freight.

Good move by both club and player. Will hopefully get his chance to play some solid top tier footy in his most suited position. And we have a few hundred thousand extra to splurge on genuine first graders (hopefully).
