Official team v Souths
That's a VERY weak bench, we'll get monstered if we go with that 1-17

He who is not everyday conquering some fear has not learnt the secret of life.
Against Souths we may need three fullbacks but not three hookers!krayola wrote:lol it's not like Potter hasn't picked Gavet based on form...dude must still be underdone or injured otherwise of course he'd be in the team. You'd think likewise w Patterson.
But the Halatau and Lulia choices are surprising. Really think Aka deserves a shot ahead of Dene at this stage as the utility role is already filled by Austin. As some have said, two of Halatau Austin and Luani but not all three!

Things to me seem to be going backwards selection wise...the persistence of playing an injured winger when you have at your disposal a player in career best form, a bench that seems to be getting smaller by the week,a hooker that has proved not to be NRL standard , why Austin is selected each week is puzzling to be on the bench , they started with a winning formula and have gone away from it.

The first rule is not to have a little change as possible.
They all go with this
I'd like to know where Gavet is though

Agree with Halatau, he might alternate the 2 positions but i dont think he will returning to original spot once he moves. He might replace Luani and then later move to 2nd row with Austin slotting in.pHyR3 wrote:except Austin has trained at 6 all season, and Halatau will probably be playing in the 2nd row. So it's actually just 1 hooker, or maybe 2 if Luani is unable to go the full 80.Balmain Boy wrote:We can't have Luani, Austin and Halatau all in the same squad. That's 3 hookers!!!!
Either Halatau or Austin should start at hooker and leave Luani in NSW Cup. He hasn't impressed in his efforts so far this season and the experience of the other two should hopefully see the team go forward.
I say, lose Luani, bring in Austin and have 4 forwards on the bench!!
And don't get me started on Lulia??!!
Lulia is cover for Simona.
Not a bad plow, slippery/Dewy conditions and quick dummy half runs might just work.
We will just need to muscle up the first 25 mins

Wests Tigers have the bye in State Cup which makes this team selection even more puzzling.
I have watched training the last couple of weeks and noted Gavet appears to be 100% fit, running at full speed without a problem. Patterson appears to be in good nick also, though his injury was to his index finger. Based on all players being available for selection with the exception of Woods; Farah; Fulton & Moltzen, I think most would agree that Luani & Anasta & to a lessor extent Nofo do not deserve selections based on form. Halatau to hooker / Bodene to cover as he did a few weeks back if fatigue becomes a problem; Austin to 5/8; Koro possibly to the wing or at the very least Nofo be made to stretch out in training at 100% - unlike Gavet I did not see Nofo run at full pace over the last 2 weeks. The bench this week should be Gavet; Ava; Sue & Akoula / Patterson. If there is a problem with Simona (he was running fine today)Asipeli Fine is a much better option than Lulia. As things stand at present we are playing right into the rabbits hands who will be determined to make this a forward battle as it appears we will run out of ammo after 20 minutes and be shooting light weight blanks, with the current bench

Its a good thing to have selection headaches provided the strongest team is picked.
Brooksie will win this game for us with his accurate chips and grubbers....
Bit of Sheenius in this team.
I would have AVA, Buchanan and Marika b4 a few of those blokes.
So thrilled to sea Anasta's shoulder is ok.

Hmmm let's hope there are some changes to the bench before game day.
Sooner or later, next year has to be this year - Ricksen

Don't want to jinx it, but wasn't Marty Tapau placed on report against Newie? I thought he'd miss a week in carry over points but the beaks suspended Snowden today and made no mention of Tapau. I can only assume the match review committee disagreed with the on field ref.
He was cleared thankfully.Cosimo_Zaretti wrote:Don't want to jinx it, but wasn't Marty Tapau placed on report against Newie? The bench is a bit bizarre. I can't see room for both Halatau and Austin, either one or the other please, given we're up against a big physical pack. Include Akaoula at the expense of one of them.

Very strange bench as everyone has noted. Im am praying that Halatau, Austin and Luani are not all in the 17. I was a big fan of Luani last year but I havent been impressed with his dummy half work this year. He has been largely off the pace in every game. Hope he proves me wrong.
Im actually happy to see Siro start. We need to develop him as a startingg second rower and just let him rip in for the first 25 mins.

Surely one of Austin or halatau drop off the bench for Akoula? I think lulia is there in case of injury to Nofo or Simona, or maybe even Lawrence given the knee he copped in the back. Also is Anasta 100%? Austin may be a chance to start for him.
Sure hope the days of having 4 bash brothers on the bench aren't too far away.

Would there not be a question mark over Sironen playing under the concussion rules?
