Re: Our halves our future

by Phoenixtigers18 » Tue Aug 26, 2014 4:45 pm
I'm an impatient guy but our young halves are our future. I'd like us to try and field this side next year but it would take a huge off season for a few players especially blake Austin who would need to bulk up again. I would make a play for the unhappy Steve Matai.
1. J. Tedesco
2. P. Richards
3. S. Matai
4. D. Nofo
5. T. Simona
6. M. Moses
7. L. Brooks ( both sides of the ruck)
13. B. Austin ( Glenn Stewart role)
12. B. Thompson ( not sure if he has signed in S/L?? )
11. A. Blair
10. M. Lodge
9. R. Farrah
8. A. Woods
14. M. Tapau
15. C. Sironen
16. Ava
17. J. Sue
18. M. Cherrington
19. C. Lawrence
20. J. Gavet
And so on.
I love this team on paper

After tonight I've revised it. We need to let Austin develop. To hell with the "Dynasty" Austin should be looked at as our future club captain let alone our six. This side offers balance.

1. Moses
2. Nofoaluma
3. Fine
4. Tedesco
5. Richards
6. Austin
7. Brooks
8. Woods
9. Farah
10. Lodge
11. Lawrence
12. Taupau
13. Santi

14. Akauola
15. Seumanufagai
16. Blair
17. Galloway

Lawrence and Taupau are far more likely to run the lines we need backrowers to run. Sironen plays way too much like a five-eighth still, doesn't just hit holes and run lines. This is Lawrence's best remaining strength. He'd still be fast for a backrower and I can visualise he and Taupau hitting holes at speed and being real weapons at it. Brooks and Moses in particular will love having these guys as options in closer. Both should train full time in the off season in the backrow. Taupau is well fast enough and is too much of an attacking weapon to be confined to prop.

Fine and Tedesco in the centres looks a hell of a lot better than this years options, both are fast and good defenders. Fine looked great tonight, was difficult to put down and the defense on his side of the field looked a million times stronger with him and Richards there.

Richards needs to step up but I still see crazy value in his kicking and ability to read the play. He'll be better after an off season. Nofoaluma picks himself when uninjured.

Santi looks like he has a lot of energy and I could see him playing a Fensom role for us at lock and I think he offers more than Blair now. Blair has been okay this season but I wouldn't be re-signing him so we need to phase him out of the side over next year.

Galloway and Blair off the bench for experience. Akauola as an impact player or replacement for outside back injury. Ava is a rock.

I have assumed Austin won't be there- if he wants a release there is no point keeping a player who doesn't want to be there
Had enough of Blair and Lawrence, like to see Santi and Lovett get a go next year
Simona has played his best on the wing ,Nofo is a strong runner

Austin

Woods
Farah
Galloway

Thompson (if he resigns)

Taupau
Lawrence (as a second rower/utility)

The reason I left Galloway and Lawrence in the side is because the provide experience to a very youthful side. I understand that most people here don't like them, but they bring leadership. We can't just have a side with most players under 22 playing against much larger men. After Richards retires (probably at the end of the 2015 season) move Teddy to wing and put Fine in at centre.

Lawrence's only future for 2015 is second row starting from the bench. Austin is currently being tempted by Canberra to join them in 2015. In order to keep him for 2015 we must start pre-season training play him at 5/8 with Brooks at half. At this stage of his career Moses would be well up to a wing spot in first grade.

Moses
Nofoaluma
Simona

hey im just wondering what everyone thinks the best team for us in 2015 would be.
(with current squad and some signings that seem reasonable)
my top side would look alittle something like this feel free to show me yours or to comment on mine.
1- teddy
2- nofo
3- simona
4-kev naiqama(if rumors about signing him are true)
5- richards
6- austin (moses not ready for 1st choice in my opinion)
7-brooks
8-woods
9-farrah
10-lodge/keffie
11-blair
12-brad takairangi(if rumors are true, hopefully could be a sort of glen stewart 2012type)
13-thompson(if he resigns)/Anthony Cherrington (i think he is truely a good player that hasnt been given a shot at a stable first grade spot)
14-martie taupau
15-lodge/keffie
16-james gavet(playing a impact second row role)
17-siro/thompson/cheeington

coach- griffin

From what I have seen of him, Fine is slower than Richards. And he is not a goal kicker.

By the look of some of these teams thank god we have a coach a 5/8 on the wing. I for one will wait till i see who stays and who goes but i must say a wide range of views.
