Farah benching

Post by Masterton » Sun 08 Mar, 2015 12:33 pm

Surprised there hasn't been more mention of giving Farah a rest. Certainly came as a surprise to me and I'm not sure it was particularly effective. To be successful, Halatau has to make some decent metres from dummy half.

A big no to Halatau at this stage of his career from me.

Farah was quiet all night, wouldn't be surprised if he was a bit under the weather. Only makes sense to bench him when the game is not in the balance.

I think the move is with a view to a long season ahead for Robbie...not bothered by it, not sure it affected us either way tbh

i think everyone was about to create a lynch mob for potter last time this happened (vs. manly in 2013).

he must be nursing some injury/illness, or has decided to save himself for the back end of the year now that he's getting older and maybe cant put up 80minutes for 24 odd games, 3 state of origins and hopefully some finals games ;)

I wasn't a fan of it, partly due to the fact he was my SC Captain.

It was probably due to the heat factor ?

He isn't getting any younger. The issue i have is replacing him with Halatau. If benching Robbie for 20 minutes a game is going to be a tactic going forward, i think it's the perfect opportunity to have Cherrington on the bench. We would loss nothing, in fact it would make us sooo much more dangerous in attack.

The fact Cherrington wasn't there could be an indication that the move wasn't pre-planned.

I'm actually thinking that JT will replace Robbie with Halatau during the origin period.

I thought it was a waste of an interchange to keep him off after halftime.

If the ruck speed is faster I would be a fan of getting Cherrington in the 17. We need to plan better for the origin period and would actually benefit from 10-15 minutes of Cherrington buzzing around.

Halatau offers nothing in the opposition 20 as a hooker. It was annoying when Robbie was off and we had good opportunities. With Cherrington in there we would still carry a real threat for that short period of time. Halatau is just a plodder trying his best I am sorry. God help us if he is our number 9 during origin, chalk up 3 losses for us.

Farah was ordinary by his standards last night however still made 1-2 clutch plays.

I like the idea of giving Robbie a rest. He was pretty ordinary last night but his ordinary is still pretty good.

I imagine it will be a Halatau/Cherrington combo. I doubt Cherrington will be ready for 80 minutes by then.

It's a good thing. It will increase the longevity of his career. Reminds me a lot of what Coach Popovich has done with Tim Duncan. Duncan is 38 years old and still a beast.

Farah was everywhere for us in the last 10, he was in almost every tackle. If that's the result of spelling him for 20 through the middle then I'm happy to wear it.
I'd still prefer Cherrington over Halatau though.

is it worth a bench spot for cherrington to play only 10-20minutes though? closer to origin i could understand since he will be required to play a lot more.

also cherrington doesnt have that utility that other players do.

happy for halatau to cover for now, he went okay.
