Captain Woods

Post by Gray » Tue 02 Jun, 2015 3:07 pm

Aaron Woods has been named captain of Wests Tigers for the Club's Round 13 match against the Gold Coast Titans on Friday, June 5 at Leichhardt Oval.

The Leichhardt junior co-captained Wests Tigers along with Chris Lawrence previously against the Sydney Roosters in Round 9, 2014, but is set to be named sole captain for the first time in his career in the absence of Robbie Farah for Friday night's match at Leichhardt Oval.

Stay tuned for the full Round 13 team announcement on weststigers.com.au at 5:01pm.

Get behind Aaron and the boys this Friday when they take on the Titans! Bring a mate, and get two General Admission tickets for just $40

Personally... I think he is still too young and lacks the maturity to be a captain yet. He's obviously our future captain and maybe even NSW future captain. But when it comes to decision making I think we're better to let Woods be Woods at the moment instead of having to think like a captain.

Do captains even make many decisions in a game these days. Probably just on penalties.

For the most part its inspiring the team and getting a rocket up blokes not doing their part.

Really happy for Woods. I'm sure he'll love it even more playing at Leichardt. He'll have plenty of mates there cheering him on.

For some reason this gives me more confidence of win this week. Just the fact he'll try to go to another level.

Based on who would take the field he is the only one leading the front week in week out, he also keeps a level head on and off the park.

Let the most experienced kid lead the other kids and have them use to him being the leader.

I get the fact that experienced player/captains can be front rowers but if he's playing 50 minutes, someone else still needs to do it on the field for 30... who is the go-to then?

Great to see our most consistent player getting rewarded. He will lead us to victory!
Today we saw a true champion in Winx, and a true bludger in Cleary!

I'm think it could mean Halatau is dropping to the bench and Cherrington will start.

Halatau is well past it and wont be here next yr and hopefully the same with lawrence. This is a sign of our future and in reality has been leading us by actions

Nice reward for him as long as it doesn't affect his game.

Halatau was a natural choice for the game he captained. Now that Woods is back he's been anointed teh captain of the future it would seem. Makes sense to give him the gig.

In the NRL today has a captain a significant role to play or are they just symbolic??? When I look at a player like Cameron Smith, I think it is so important to have leadership but I think most teams today are lead by the waterboy who is running instructions, calling future plays and geeing up the team.

Anyway if you go by the old formula and give the C job to the best player, Woods was the standout and I hope he can make a difference, by god we need it
