Is Taylor this pedantic re structure - Richards kick offs

Unread post by Eddie » Sun 28 Jun, 2015 9:07 pm

Anyone notice Pat kick offs have become meat and potatoes end over end kicks.

However when we are 12 plus down he starts doing those spirals, floaters??

Something small, but it was an effective weapon last year.

His kickoff's are now ineffective , they are way too short and the oppositions first tackle is on the 20.

They need to land in the in goal .

Said the same thing myself tonight. Every kick off (and god help us we have plenty of them) the opposition starts on 20 or so. Why? Who's in charge?

I think that is probably more to do with line speed, lack of enthusiastic chase.

Looks like he has been asked to take the chance element out of the kick off. End over end robotic kicks. Like our last tackle options. Robotic, structure etc.

Just remember Richards kicked two out on the full in earlier games this season

The one v the Warriors was pretty crucial

Happy you sound like taylor.

Dont ever try anything - cause you might make a mistake type.

Coaching not to lose rather then to win.

You can see it in the body language of the players.

Its all wrong.

Exactly. Conservatism has started to become embraced by our staff.
Real footballers know this is wrong. I see an upset playing group.

Can't remember the last time Richards caused headaches with his kick offs. I've noticed this for a couple of weeks.

The point I am making. He is not even trying to.

He is kicking it end on end like a shot for goal. Easy to catch.

Clearly it is under instruction. Once we were down by 12 he gave himself the green light or the coaches did to try some spirals.

I know it is something little. But to me it smacks of a conservative, robotic and over coached rubbish.

Previously he had a decent chance to get the ball back and cause some chaos. But no no no no no to risky you might kick it out on the full. No wonder they looked motionless and like robots out there.

Yep.

You don't win games consistently by playing negative footy. You need to play positive footy.

I was standing behind the field, he kicked at least 2 or 3 torpedo kickoffs, big hang time, like normal. I don't see a clear directive to reign in the kickoffs.

As Geo said, he put a curly one into touch. If we can get back 1-2 kickoffs per game, that is a decent strike rate.

That's the point though, torpedo kicks with big hang time get us field position, but don't really threaten the catcher like some of his other kicks. He'd put up kicks that would float all over the field and it was obvious that it was difficult for the receiver, these are just routine kicks. His one that found the sideline looked more like a shank than anything on TV.

It's the more we lose, the more conservative we become. It's becoming a chore to watch, can only imagine how boring it is for the players.

They are not enjoying their footy. A far cry from the enthusiastic young group we saw at the beginning of the season.

Counting the days until the football season starts again, we've been absolute s*** to watch this year.

yeah have been noticing that too, his kicks have been offering nothing and it was something the commentators always mentioned, haven't heard anything in ages and the kicks look very mundane
