Under Pressure.

Post by Tiger In The Gong » Sun 05 Jul, 2015 6:17 pm

With the team being under the pump and both the fans and the media starting to ask some serious questions this week shapes as a season defining game.

I realise that that sounds a bit odd given we are playing a team who only have 1 more win than us but this is shaping as a must win game. Lose to the Eels and there could quite possibly be wave of frustration Taylor and the board may not be able spin their way out of.

While everything we are striving to achieve is admirable and Taylor's theory and assessment of why this club has under achieved is close to the mark, it all means nothing if he does not have the ability to get this playing group to improve.

The most notable aspect of this weeks match up comes in the form of Brad Takairangi, we had this guy signed sealed and delivered, unfortunately the new coach chose to pass on the contract. This week that logic will be put to the test as the Wests Tigers run out with a centre pairing reminiscent of the historically under whelming Nick Bradley Qalilawa, Mark Ohalloren etc.

Parramatta's outside backs and edge forwards are their strength. Led by Brad Takairangi, his mates Semi Radradra, Bureta Faraimo, Manu Ma'u, Tepai Moeroa and Anthony Watmough the likes of Deloise Hoeter, Nathan Milone, Kevin Naquama and old Pat Richards are under pressure to hold their own.

If our lads cant hold them out it wont be just this game that gets ugly, the fall out that will follow is going to place a hell of a lot of pressure on a team heading for their first wooden spoon.

Im hopeful but if we get off to a poor start and hand them possession and momentum i doubt the players selected can hold them out.

Thoughts?

Very hard to see us getting within 20 points, could be very wrong, but with the 17 players picked its going to be a long night and I would not be holding Taylor responsible for any result this week

I don't see this game as being critical. I think this season is a write off. Taylor hasn't said or done much right in his first season. I don't think his theory and assessment have been anywhere close to the mark. He has just been Warney since he got here and he has been caught out.

Personally I just want to see some wins and smart play for the rest of the season. No more Taylor ball. No more spin. Sign some players for next year where we are weak and completely overhaul the coaching structures that were put in place. That doesn't mean sack Taylor. That means Taylor needs to completely reassess his approach and he needs to come up with a positive game plan going forward.

The reality is we just don't have the structures (offensive or defensive), personnel or form to match the Eels at the moment and it will be a miracle if we manage to conjure up a win. The team selected is totally underwhelming and, to be honest, puzzling. Centre has been a position of weakness all season and to expect Hoeter and Millone to somehow turn around their previously tepid form against the Eels' outside backs is complete and utter wishful thinking. I think the coaching staff have put unnecessary pressure on themselves and the club by persisting with mediocrity and not selecting the best players available.....

This is the kind of game we win.

Just when everyone's given up, we get sucked back in with some renewed hope.

Likewise, the odd giant killer game we have every so often...

I'll be there feeling like I'm watching a re-run of the movie ZULU hopelessly outnumbered and ready for the slaughter, hope the unpredictable result is a the same with a miraculous victory to our blokes, last minute field goal to Drinky.
