Beware the super league form. Greg Edan was better than Fonua and he could not get a game for the broncos while he was out here

Are we going to have enough Front Rowers/ Middle Forwards, next year?
Essentially we are going to have the same number this year, as last. With two dropping out and two coming in.
However this year when we had injuries, the replacements that came up from the lower grades (Twal and Eiso) killed it. I'm not so sure this will happen again next year. Hopefully someone like JJF can step up, if injuries strike.

2. David Nofoaluma
3. Moses Suli
4. Mahe Fonua
5. Taane Milne
6. Josh Reynolds
7. Luke Brooks
8. Russell Packer
9. Jacob Liddle
10. Ben Matulino
11. Chris McQueen
12. Elijah Taylor (c)
13. Matt Eisenhuth

14. Sauaso Sue
15. Josh Aloiai
16. Chris Lawrence
17. Benji Marshall

hoping we can buy a winger, Milne MWZ etc should be depth not first choice
Switch Lawrence with Twal.
And Sue with Marsters.

Good looking team otherwise
Pretty sure Milne and Fonua would also be a swap...
Yeah a swap there no big deal but decent looking side with the 19 players mentioned.

Good depth beyond that as well

I don't think that Fonua is a walk up start in the backline. Sure he has looked great in England but we need to remember that he was playing a step below NRL, plus looking at our current side, there are some big improvers there. I know this thread is just a bit of fun but I think I'd like to see some pre season trials before naming a side just because some of our current players are looking hard to leave out - especially players like Marsters, Suli, Eisenhuth, Twal etc seem to have "NRL level" or even "Future Star"written all over them.

2018, just bring it on!
Fonua and Milne will need to earn their backline spots.

The only new recruit that would be a walk-up starter in our backline would be Rona if we get him.

In rd 1 I think Ivan will go:
Tui
Nofa
Suli
Marsters
MWZ

I really am starting to like MWZ, he is big, strong and fast. Going to be hard to leave him out if he keeps improving at his current rate.
MWZ has been really good hasn't he. There are some spots with a lot of competition next year. I hope Fonua & Milne are better than the players that we have and grab a spot but how knows.

This team looks really good. The only point I'd make is that I think we will need a cover for Liddle on the bench. Lawrence might also be there over McQueen.

I don't think that there will be a problem. Matulino, Packer. Twal, Sue, Eisenhuth, ET (if required or if that is the best option), Aloiai (if required or if that is the best option) & Grant. These guys can all play and do well in first grade. Hopefully some youngsters can also step up if required.

That's a strong bench.
Marsters did very well this year. If Milne isn't cutting it , Marsters could slot straight back into the centre position .
Also a bit of competition for Fonua's wing spot.

Hope there are no injuries in the backs with that bench. Benji would have to be 14 imo.

If you used Marsters as the utility, You could still juggle the team around if the fullback or a half went down. Not quite as well in the halves or Dummy Half if Benji was there but stronger in the other backs position and more useful in the forwards. So often the utility is under used in games.

If Lolohea went down, shift Nofoaluma to fullback, Milne to wing, Marsters to centre.

I think Marsters can play in the halves but if not, do the same thing we did for previous scenario except move Lolohea to halves or shift ET or someone other foward to the halves

You are obviously set in your idea - that is fine.

Changing 3 players to cover for one is not good practice imo.

Masters is essentially a second rower playing in the centre - and good on him, he is getting away with it.
However by no stretch of the imagination is he a half. Playing ET at half, you could stop the flow maybe.

However the idea of replacing an injured player is to cause as little disruption as possible and still put your team in a position to win the game.

I think it's really tough to pick the team at this point. I've put Marsters at centre on the right but should Suli be there. I've put Fonua on the left wing but I have no idea where he will play.

I've given Aloia the starting left edge backrower spot and that means McQueen and Lawrence miss out on a spot in the team because I think we need 3 middle forwards and a utility off the bench. Benji can replace any position in the spine so he gets the 17 spot.

We are going to have a different team next year with a lot of depth. Our outside backs look big and explosive while probably lacking some pace. The pack looks solid as does the bench. I think we may lack some class though in the spine and we lack speed but I'm not sure that will be an issue because our outside backs hopefully will do the job.

We need the spine to step up.

Each year the game changers. This year there seemed to be a lot more ball movement in breaking down defensive structures.
You have chosen an all tank backline. Maybe we are on the cusp of a backline power revolution.

1. Lolohea- Tank
2. Nofo - Tank
3. Suli- Tank
4. Marsters-Tank
5. Fonua -Tank

I like it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Corey Thompson at all. I think he is as good a chance as Milne. Thoughts?
