I don't like our backrow, McQueen, Lawrence, Aloiai, Taylor, Eisenhuth just don't spell premiership winning backrow for mine.

How about the size in the Cowboys backrow. Gavin Cooper, Coen Hess, Jason Taumalolo , Ethan Lowe ect. They are all massive. IMO the best backrow in the comp (on paper). Yet they still they could beat the Broncos at home , even with Micheal Morgan's kicking game.
Any one of these four would start in our backrow. Yet I think Ivan will have our backrow playing at a higher tempo.
Ivan "Billy Beane from Moneyball" Cleary!

Front loading and back loading are both terrible ideas IMO. As geo alluded to, as if the players ever end up taking less in future years.

The best way to use free cap space on existing players, is to upgrade the player's salary in order to convince them to sign a contract extension. E.g. If Coen Hess was being chased by other clubs for 2019, the cowboys could say we will upgrade your 2018 contract, if you sign an extension for a further X number of years. Whereas front loading would be more like the cowboys saying we'll front load your contract & pay you $600k in 2019, but you'll only get $400k in 2020/2021. If Hess were to agree to that contract for some stupid reason, the cowboys would end up with a very disgruntled player in the latter years of his contract.
True. That is an option. But it would rely on one of our guys who is finishing up next year performing beyond their current contract value to a fairly decent extent. A Coen Hess type like you mention, or Teddy this year for us. It's still front loading.

I really don't get why people think it's a bad thing. As ECON101 will tell you, a $ today is worth more than a $ tomorrow. A player who gets an extra $50k now rather than next year will be able to invest that and have more cash than he would have in the other scenario. Time value of money. There are a few of the smarter guys in the team doing business degrees that would be comfortable with that concept and they would certainly be the ones who you would talk to.

Yep I totally understand the concept of a dollar today being better than a dollar tomorrow - I'm actually an accountant myself. But I don't understand why a player would choose to take a year on year pay cut. The reality of going from a higher salary to a lower salary would be a difficult adjustment, as one would get used to having $X amount going into their bank account each month.
Year of last finals appearance:
2017 - Storm, Roosters, Broncos, Eels, Sharks, Sea Eagles, Panthers, Cowboys
2016 - Raiders, Bulldogs, Titans
2015 - Rabbitohs, Dragons
2013 - Knights
2011 - Tigers, Warriors

Maybe Rochow for Sue. I don't know any more ,we seem to have so much depth for 2018. I guess this was Cleary's vision from day one with his talk about no one is bigger than the team....0r whatever Geo has at the bottom of his posts

Marsters in for Sue. He can play in the forwards or backs.

Not sure about Milne.

I really feel Liddle has to start in ISP Cup; at least to start the season.

I do like Twal, but I'd like to see Rochow in the black and gold pack more.
