Will be in the top 25 now because of his upgrade for this year?

So we've signed Suli until the end of season 2020 for 1.3m. Which is four seasons (2017,2018,2019,2020) at $325k per season (by my reckoning).
Did I read somewhere that Simona is on $350k ?
How much would Joey" "BJ" Leilua be on?
in Ivan we distrust

The thought of him on one side weighing 106kg and Idris on the other side is quite exciting.

Wait a second..Does WT's Management include Jason Taylor in this case... :?

The bottom line is he is untried at NRL level and we are not a Club that can afford the luxury of spending such money for a kid who will most likely play lower Grades for the next 2 years .

Hope it all works out and that Harry came to the party with this signing
We also don't have the luxury of investing nothing in junior development and just poaching the cream of other clubs' systems when they're ready to contribute.

The only way a club like ours can compete is to have a lot of young talent, correctly identify which players are going to make it and lock them up before bigger money lures them away.

I don't know whether this guy is going to be a gun at NRL level. But this kind of move is exactly what the club has to do. If we wait until he's a proven first grader we'll lose him, so we have to take a chance.
That sums it up.
Clubs like ours need to take the leap of faith and roll the dice on unproven blokes who look like they've got the goods.
If/when he shows he's a gun then the brown paper bag clubs are gonna swoop in and we would have lost our chance. Let's face it, even if there were a plethora of quality centres available for the taking from other clubs, you wouldn't get anyone too great for $400 000 IMO.
Hope he kicks on.

Wow that's a lot of money for an outside back who has only played two games of NYC. You can only hope that management have got this one right
Year of last finals appearance:
2018 - Roosters, Storm, Rabbitohs, Sharks, Panthers, Broncos, Dragons, Warriors
2017 - Eels, Sea Eagles, Cowboys
2016 - Raiders, Bulldogs, Titans
2013 - Knights
2011 - Tigers

He scores our first try. Number 4.

Scores in this game too, but no idea who is who

Looks like he is number four again in the last clip, scores first on the right edge, also provides a nice flick pass for the winger later in the piece.

Did he come up from the SG ball comp last year?
Why only 2 games?

His deal would most definitely include trigger incentives which would bring his potential earning capacity to 1.3mil over 4 seasons. When you take into consideration that the cap will be increasing next year then this kind of value signing will become the norm. In reality he is probably on $200k a year? Play x amount of first grade and we are getting the value out of him anyway.
A mate of mine who is involved in a lot of coaching junior footy has told me that the kid has some insane potential. Bellamy personally rang him after we played the Storm at Leichhardt last year, so that tells you something of his potential.

2018 Backline
1. Tedesco
2. Nofoaluma
3. Idris
4. Suli
5. Papenhuyzen
6. Moses
7. Brooks

Wow

Yep.
If we had a money tree, it might be worth taking a punt on an unknown "star" kid.
But we don't , and we need some quality experience in the club, now!
Not more potential, based on performances in a non tackling lower grade.
What's changed from the sometimes crazy decisions of our past Administrations.....Nothing much, obviously!!

You should know by now Geo that if it turns into a good move, its well done to recruitment and retention and the football manager. If it ends up a dud move, Taylor is a hopeless knob. The same names keep popping up to stir the pot. If we let him go, Taylor was the one who let it happen.

I can think of a few on here that we should tell they are free to look elsewhere at other forums for a better deal.

Well he hasn't been offered $500k a season (which in today's cap would more likely be about $650) like Brooks and Moses were for starters. And the club is the only one that knows the state of our salary cap, not the media who throws darts at a board. There has been no breach notice by the NRL as yet so it's all heresay.

Good move by WT management. Enough of the 1-2 year deals on young players with potential. Back our talent development and scouting and lock players away for 3-4 years. There are some large athletic lads in our NYC this year probably bigger than some past WT first grade squads. We need to keep Simona Idris and this kid would be a huge unknown and we need Naiqama on the wing as Rankin is horrendous.

You will always have to pay overs for halves, Cleary would be a $700-800k a Season player now.

Only in 2016 can we say we started getting value for Moses....the 2 years before that we had to pay overs for him to gain NRL experience ( basically).

Realistically this kid is only 18 years old and I doubt he will see 1st Grade unless we are hit with injuries, the Club will probably start him in Holden Cup and then maybe 2nd half of the year move him to Reserve Grade to play with Men.

I've seen to many potentially great players in Holden Cup that have been touted as great things to be very average 1st Graders at best Curtis Sironen, Jake Mullaney, Groat, Brooks come to mind.

Massive gamble.
It depends who you talk to on this Forum, if you are Optimistic? it's because your delusional and need a reality check. If you are Pessimistic? Your accused of being a negative Nancy and to go and follow another Club.

I think these days its easier to judge if a player is going to make it through the physical testing and opposed sessions they do. Of course that doesnt guarantee it, but its more of an educated guess these days, especially when the kids is already in your system like Suli is. We have obviously had a good look at him snd his personality too.
I remember an absolute sensation going to make his debut for the WTs.....superstar written all over him...he lasted twenty minutes and had an injury that took all that season for him to rehabilitate.....I think his name was TEDESCO...how's he going these days...?????.. :D
You may see me struggle...but you will never see me quit... :D

And Swordy you'd be all over the Balmain officials at HM and SG Ball level that have had a role in his identification and development through the years! :D
