So, I was just on the Penny Panthers Site with the intention to look up Josh Mansour stats and got a surprise to see Matt Eisenhuth in their team line-up. 🤔hmm

Weird. Not who I'd think would be our first choice target.
Even with the amount of whinging on here about our outside backs?

I thought we'd go for speed, height and defensive skill.

28 next year. A couple recent injuries. Not particularly fast. He's basically an upgraded Noff.

Speaking of Matt ..... is he a better lock or front rower??
Lock definitely! I don't know why Ivan insists on playing him at prop when either Grant or Felise could easily step in. Not a fan of him playing Aloiai at prop either. They play better in their rightful positions, imo. Shades of Sheens trying to manufacture a team with everyone swapping positions!

When have we ever gone for speed, height and defensive skill on our wings Tacky? It's always the short nuggety ones we go for

As for Mansour, I really hope we haven't made him a big offer. He will spend more time on the sidelines than on the field and it just won't be worth it.

Mansour would definitely be an upgrade - at the right price of course.

Nothing wrong with 1 plodder, you just don’t want a team full of them. It takes all types to have the right mix

the way i see it our forwards can be split in to two groups:

old heads: matulino, packer, lawrence, taylor, rochow (barely) and mcqueen
young heads: eiso, sue, twal, mck, aloiai

the young heads are doing great but i'd increase the pressure on them to give us more quality minutes
My Round 1 Team 2018

1. lolo 2. noffa 3. suli 4. milne 5. fonua
6. reynolds 7. brooks
8. packer 9. ET 10. Twal
11. McQuen 12. Lawrence 13. Eiso
14. Matulino 15. McIllwrick 16. Sue 17. Aloiai
18. Marsters 19. Benji 20. Grant 21. K Naiqama
Next: Liddle, MCK, Felise, MWZ, Thompson, Rochow, Gamble

What do you see that’s plodderish about him?

He’s been good for his age and price, solid defender, good passer.
One of my sources is Pascoe

I'll answer that Trumpy and I'll answer in detail! Eiso, dead set, plods forward a lot of the time with very little aggression, power or line bending effect. To be honest, he looks a little halfhearted when he takes the ball up and seems to volunteer to take a run when nobody else wants it. This especially applies inside the opposition quarter, when what the team really needs is a couple of rapid fire, hard and fast charges. It used to frustrate me know end when Woods would trundle forward at the line, engage in upper body wrestles before taking an eternity to play the ball. Unfortunately, I see the same thing in Eisenhuth. Commentators call them settlers. I call them wastes of tackles. Give the ball to someone who'll smash the ball up and actually set up some momentum for the halves. Our best exponents of this are 1. Alouai, 2. Matulino and 3. Packer, before he was injured. Don't get me wrong, I like Eiso for his work ethic, low defense and ability to pass the ball but he is a plodder when running it forward. By the way, does the coach design the exact sequence of a set of six in the opposition quarter, including who is involved or is it the players making the decisions? I've a hunch, it's a mixture of both, depending on players' energy levels.

Spot on analysis of Eisenhuth - needs to have lessons from Packer and Matulino. He is definitely turning into another Woods (that is not a bad thing) but not what WE need.

When we get Packer back maybe "The Huth" should spend time in ISP working on his cart ups. You need an 80 minute player (Plodder as some call them) that gets through a mountain of work but why settle for this when he can work hard and improve his game 50%.

As for "Gonna be good" Sue - but never is, another one to let go I'm afraid.

I think we would be better going north of the border if we are prepared to pay big money for a winger. Mansour to injury prone???

I thought that he was really great last year, or was he playing hard for a new contract?
He may have been he was the same as he is this year, but shone out last season in a very average pack.

I agree he's lost a little spring in his step. My only real concern with his game is the vigour if his hitups, I wish he'd run a bit harder into the line. He's a big unit and if didn't hit up as slowly, he'd be able to force ineffective tackles and open himself up for offloads. At the moment he's the most likely in our team to be put on his back and slow PTB, shades of Woodsie.

Defensively I don't have any concerns.
