Post by Kerry Cogger » Tue 21 Aug, 2018 5:14 pm

Hi guys say We had a choice of these 3 to coach us next year who would you take?I like Cleary as a coach quite a lot but if Bennett was to come here it would be tempting. Also Madge.Cheers.

If Cleary is going to stick around long term he could be a great coach for the club.

Bennett would be a smash a grab at a premiership and after what happened with Newcastle I would be concerned.

Madge would be good if Cleary isn’t going to stick around beyond his current contract.

I’m sure things will happen in the off season.

I think we will need a big name coach to attract the top notch quality players that we need. I dont think Cleary has that attraction.

I think its an myth that Bennet would go to a club and just look for a quick fix. Yes he might have done that at the Knights but the guy is one of the best coaches the game has produced, its insulting to suggest he wouldnt be professional and think of the long term future of his next club.
Its an opinion!

If Bennett can attract TPJ and some other quality players. Then Bennett.
No Boyd though.

Brooks would go well with TPJ, Oates and a few others around him.
in Ivan we distrust

Yeah, happy enough with Cleary at this stage, but would prefer either of the other pair if he is only staying under sufferance.

If Cleary wants to stay - fine. Even if he sees out his contract that's 4 years and a solid base. Bennett I'm not keen on. 10 years ago sure. Not now. Maguire would be my preference of those two. 2021 is a world way. Souths coach was a nobody two years ago.

If Cleary leaves its Maguire or Toovey for me both have good records, very respected in Rugby League and with the media.
Kevin Walters deserves a shot if we can’t attract a proven coach. He has great knowledge of QLD juniors and would be ideal for recruitment.

Pretty academic question really. Cleary is here for another 2 years and could be a strong possibility that he maybe here for a lot longer.

Bennett would be another two years older in 2021. Madge, Toovy, Hasler, Barrett - all a step down from Cleary in my opinion (don't care how many premierships they have won) that is all in the past.

Need to extend Cleary for another 3 years - can't keep changing coaches and do any good.

At the monent Ivan is here for the next 2 years?????
What needs to be happen to kill off any speculation is for Ivan to be extended by Wests Tigers for 2 to 3 years or he can put his hand up and say he wants to extend his current contract either way it needs to happen sooner rather than later.
Bennett would be a backward step (couldn't stand to see Darius Bennett in Tigers colours)
Madge ,Toovey maybe depending who else is avaiable

If Ivan is committed to the next two years I am happy for him to stay.

If not, I'd only take either Madge or Toovey. Bennett is on the home stretch, Barrett is no better than what we've got, Seibold seems done to the Broncos.
Madge's Maulers.

Bennett should go and play golf or feed the pigeons. The bloke's pushing 70!

Already a thread on this...
Isn't there?

Simple answer...
Cleary, if his heart is in it.

Cleary for sure! He's a builder from the bottom up and that's where we were when he started. Now we are steadily rising, he is the perfect match for this club. I just hope his heart is still in it after all the hoo ha of recent weeks. We really didn't need that distraction in the process of our rebuilding, it could put us back to square one.

Once upon a time I'd happily take Bennett, but like Sheens I think there comes a time when their best is behind them. Mind you, if we had a balanced team stacked with young precocious talent like Penrith then Bennett would be the best option. He has a knack of getting the already talented rosters over the line.

I'm not sure about Madge, built Souths up and got them a Premiership then they played like crap thereafter- what changed?

Does anybody else think that Hodgo would've served his apprenticeship by the time 2021 rolls around and Cleary Snr may have left?
