Well considering the dunderheaded selectors dropped a specialist batsman for this game, its entirely possible we'll need a couple of big hundreds just to compete. The new blokes need to pull their weight. Cant always expect Smith to wipe their bums for them.

The only other players I can see posting big totals tomorrow are Khawaja and Shaun Marsh. Still can't believe that Mitch Marsh was selected. He really hasn't repaid the faith so far.

How good is that documentary forged in fire?
Listening to the ex-players from both sides talk about that 74/75 Aussie side was one of the greatest laughs ive had in a long time. Thommo was hillarious.

I know 74-75 series gets people talking , but even as a young lad I can still remember the 75-76 series v the Windies

Lot of Windies superstars were just breaking into the side and we were the top side in the world

If people enjoy a good read the book "The Happy Hooker" is well worth it , covers the series in detail

Roy Fredericks 169 v Lillee ,Thomson etc in Perth is arguably the best inning I ever saw ever

Fredericks and Stackpole were 2 of the most aggresive and enjoyable openers i have been lucky enough to have watched. What a wonderful contrast they were compared to barnacles like Boycott and Lawry .

I met Thommo at an industry do last year where he was the guest speaker. He is deadset one of the funniest blokes I have ever met, and really down to earth as well.

Spins a good yarn.

Malan and Bill Burr will be looking to kick on this morning, we'll need a big first 20 overs from our quicks and try to despatch them as quickly as possible.

That may be true but i was talking about the surprise element of unleashing Thommo and a rejuvenated Lillee upon the unsuspecting poms. The story about when Thommo hit bumble in the nuts and also peppering a 41 year old Cowdrey who was covered head to toe in pads with towels stuffed down his pants had me rolling. Very funny stories.

good bowling today by the Aussies. Once Lyon and Starc got the two set middle order batters out, the tail once again put up nothing.

Smith giving a masterclass
Khawaja struggling but records a fighting 50
Aussie bowlers stole a good 100 runs from the poms this morning.

Daylight between Smith and the rest of the batters in this ashes series. I just wonder how he would have gone against a real class attack, but I guess he seems to be able to do it against all the attacks running around these days, so maybe he would also have some success against a West Indies class attack.

One thing for sure, the Poms lack a spinning option, even if it is just to add some variety.
