Another important test for our club

Unread post by larrycorowa » Wed 25 May, 2016 6:53 am

Just once I wish this group shows the desire to put their best foot forward in a big game.

One thing you know is that the Broncos won't be themselves. Every player needs to be on, our forwards need to make a statement, our halves need to play smart and our outside backs need to be composed.

We can do it but it will take 100% commitment by each of our players.

Some grounds rules I would be starting with;
1. No cheap penalties
2. No trick shots (flicks, no look passes)
3. No going for intercept
4. Make your tackles
5. Complete sets
6. Repeat sets are good enough if there are no clear try scoring opportunities
7. Kick to corners
8. Composure and patience

I think they have the desire to do well. It's about executing well. If we do that we are in with a chance.

It's all about doing what all the good sides do, play hard, fast and direct before going wide.In my book teams like the Storm and the Cows earn the right to attack by all the hard work they do up the middle.

In the very odd decent game we have played this year,it's been about the forwards playing direct with real energy one after another

Of course you have to defend with the same passion

Can I add one other rule ,

9. Brooks must not go out of his way to aim his kicks at the nearest defenders legs every time he tries to roll the ball into the in goal area.we might actuallyget
One of those evasive( for us anyway ) repeat sets

I agree SC. We need to do all that. But the halves must play a skillful and intelligent game of footy, for us to have any chance of winning.

I agree with both of the above but the halves can only show their skills from the platform of dominance in the forwards. These forwards need to believe in themselves because they have shown the right mix of skill, aggression and work ethic when they decide to take on the opposition pack up the middle.

Also, more passing at the line to slow down the sliding defence when working it out wide, and players actually watching the defensive line rather than just executing set plays to get it out wide as quickly as possible. Watching that Brooks try from last week it was ET taking the ball to the line that caused the Knights defenders to stand flat footed and create the opportunity. We need to be doing more of that - Brooks and Moses in particular need to be doing more of that because they are genuine threats when running the ball.

Given that we had a win last week, and we are coming into a game where we are expected to lose, I fear that our boys will accept a 14 point loss as being a pass mark for their performance, guaranteeing we will lose by 20.

It would be absolutely wonderful if we came out and everyone plays their role, playing as a solid team showing the willingness to fight.
I've been a member since 2012. We last played finals football in 2011. Just saying...

If our back rowers shut down Hunt and Milford, we will win.

If they are free to dictate the game, which they do better than any halves combo, we will lose.

Taylor and Rowdy have big jobs this weekend

Despite missing 6 players i can say confidently there wont be much change in their play.
They have the same DNA, Uncle Wayne only coaches the 1 way

We will see the same gritty performance from them for the 80 mins

Will we from our boys though ??

Hunt and Milf have been known to go missing in games, and without the luxury of their forward pack there's every chance this could be one of those games. We have to match them in the forwards, win the ruck and give them as little time and space as humanly possible. I think where the match will ultimately be won and lost is on the bench. They have4 rookies, we should be able to provide more impact than them.

We need to come out and make a statement. No one respects us, surely as a player that would be the ultimate insult. The Broncos have 6 players on Origin duty and we're still $4.50 outsiders. Imagine what we'd be paying if they were full strength.

Number 2 for me hopefully The myth Simona might decide to play the game as a professional ..draw and pass and actually sight the player he is passing to not just pass it on a whim ..that would be good to see.

$4.50 is tempting but the baby broncos will win.
Their pack will slaughter us.

We're not playing the baby Broncos this year. They've actually still got a large chunk of their first 17 available, including their halves whom are on fire.

We will cop an absolutely dicking.
I swing like hell but know full well that I won't win the fight, but big man I'm the beta male that's gonna ruin your night...

Fuerza en la adversidad.
