Leichhardt Oval

Post by Eddie » Sun 07 Aug, 2016 7:17 pm

Thats why you can't get rid of it.

Im not saying it wins us the game. Players and coaches win games.

However the crowd and the atmosphere was worth a few points today. Its worth a few penalties.

Call me a dinosaur but it helped us today.

The boys don;t show that sort of outward passion all the time out at ANZ. Or ever from memory.

It lifts the crowd and the players 5% and that can be big difference.

I think from memory we are over 60% wins at Leichhardt Oval since the merger begun.

Its worth its weight in gold. Hopefully in Round 26 it can play a factor.

Will be a tough game against Canberra - they will be in the top 4

We better hope we don't need to win to make the 8

You can get rid of it. It is great when it's full but we have to be a team that wins consistently. I've been there when there it feels like 20 people are there.

Totally agree. Even the 2 kilometre walk back to the car felt good today. I think we have 5 games each at Leichhardt and C'town and the rest at ANZ. The crowd might of only been 14,000 today but it always feels like 30,000.

Couldnt buy a penalty today, but its a great old ground.
Steve however is correct for once, after a few wins on the trot the crowds turn up and its a great atmosphere...would be a shame to lose that forever, because forever is a long time, eh steve?

well thats the issue isnt it? i reckon we'd have pulled close to 20k at ANZ today rather than 14k at leichardt

add in the big number of corporate boxes there and it doesn't make much economic sense to play at leichardt

while it might feel like 30k, it isnt. and money talks

i don't like the atmosphere at ANZ, i think the upgrades will make it a million times better once theyre complete though and we'll move more games there

I disagree.
A lot of the people that went today wouldn't have gone if it was at ANZ imo.

Listen to Paul Green and Matt Scott. They admitted its tougher coming here and that refs are influenced at Leichhardt. Woods and JT also said it made difference. Leichhardt is an asset for us that can't be measured in dollars. Its measured in wins and the percentages are there to back that statement up.

I'm not sure how you can see today's game (as a whole) and not see it as a positive experience. Good crowd, great atmosphere, win over the defending premiers and without a doubt the players loved it and gained something from playing there in front of a noisy crowd.

No way in the world would we have got a bigger crowd at ANZ - so many people (former Balmain fans) see Leichhardt games as big events and make the trip there just for the atmosphere. And the fact is ANZ & Allianz don't want these games. They won't pay us money to play the Cowboys, Warriors or Titans at their ground - they want our marquee games (Souths, Bulldogs, Eels, Dragons).

The current situation is close to perfect, where ANZ will pay us to play marquee games at their ground, with crowds which wouldn't fit into Leichhardt & Campbelltown, and we can still keep our links to suburban grounds by playing our other games at those venues.

People who talk about grounds & money need to understand the major stadiums won't just throw money at clubs for any games.

Leichhardt is a cauldron for visiting teams. Very tough place to win.
Extremely frustrated fan. Try not to let my negativity get to you.

It's a terrible place to watch rugby league. It's facilities are sub standard and needs $Millions invested in it to have any hope of survival long term. When it rains it is a bogg hole. Unless there is some big dollars invested in upgrades it's days are numbered.

I'd like to see state and federal govts give some money to Leichhardt since they've got plenty of cash for Brookvale

Leichhardt oval might not meet people's expectations when it comes to facilities but delivers in atmosphere for both the players and the punters. It's our fort and I never get that feeling at Homebush, and Cambo hardly ever delivers the same atmosphere, but fingers crossed everyone gets out there next Saturday and recreates the same atmosphere

Playing there is sending us broke. Is sad but true.

Do you have the figures to back that up?

Obviously I know playing at ANZ is more lucrative for the club.

However If we can win against the Raiders there and get into the finals because of it how do you measure that in dollars?

Pretty hard to top today as an overall experience. The atmosphere was electric. The crowd went off and road every play. The Tigers had a great win. Leichhardt is one of those special grounds that can generate a great atmosphere, but it is terrible in the wet. But, Homebush in its current set-up is a soulless tomb.

I think we would be mad to leave our suburban grounds until we see what the new Homebush offers. I like the current 4-4-4 split, but could live with 6-3-3 while we wait for Homebush to be redeveloped. Without a substantial cash injection though, Leichhardt and Campbelltowns days are numbered.

I read the other day that the new Inner West Council is (continuing?) with the plans to spend $3-5M? (I can't remember the exact) on Leichhardt for a new scoreboard and to improve the toilet, bar, eating facilities at the back of the hill.
