The heat

Unread post by GNR4LIFE » Mon 13 Mar, 2017 8:58 am

I still maintain the heat had a big affect. We went from playing in driving rain one week, to 35 degree heat the next, with 2 forwards on the bench. There were 2 teams out there who had to play in it, but the Panthers were clearly better prepared than us. Our bench was shocking. We looked stuffed in the 10 minutes before half time when we let 3 tries in.

Ive been on board with JT this year from the nines to the trials to team selections and things were looking rosey. I still dont know what to think of yesterday. We got our bench and rotations so wrong that i think its had a massive impact on the team. We were gassed with 10 minutes to go in the first half which is scary.

Bench: we need 3 forwards on the bench, no 2 ways about it.

Idris: either plays in the forwards or gets fitness in reggies. Passenger is a compliment to him.

Aloia: is probably our hardest running forward yet is getting minimal minutes, why???

We need luck to go our way at the best of times, so killing ourselves with a bad bench and rotation is inexcusable.

In regards to the heat they have bigger men all over the park. I see your point, and would like to know the answer. Or is it because of our bench and not the heat we did so bad?

You sound like MacDougal last year when the Titans flogged us who claimed we were "sleepy"

Bit different actually. How can you say our bench wasn't suited to the conditions? Idk about you, but i was there, they looked rooted. The try on half time was conceded to pure exhaustion. How often are they that much of a mess in attack?

I don't think so. Saying our season is over after one loss is clutching.

Oh you're clutching at straws big time. You're blaming the weather for our loss and it's laughable. Also, I can't remember writing that our season was over but maybe I did and forgot about it - the heat is really affecting my memory.

I concede that the Panthers were doing their pre season training at the foot of the Mountains during our recent heatwave so they may have been better prepared for yesterday's conditions. However, the Tigers should have also been well conditioned to the heat just having come off pre season training themselves. Taylor should have had 3 if not 4 forwards on the bench given the heat as by the 30 minute mark a number of our forwards were gassed!!

Not blaming the weather solely, but it was a factor. The bench was poorly selected for the conditions. How are we supposed to go with the opposition at the best of times with a centre and hooker on the bench let alone when its 35 degrees?

So you agree that Taylor was foolish selecting the bench that he did?

I don't think its a coincidence we lost the plot at the 30 minute mark. Before that, we were all over them. They were attacking our line early in line with where we were sitting. Blackpearl and i both said they were throwing nothing at us. A couple Panthers fans sitting next to us said they looked flat. They weren't good at all yesterday. I think that win will paper over a lot of cracks. Unfortunately we were just terrible.

Both teams played in the same conditions. One team played for 30 minutes, the other played for 80.

I already said that in another thread and you replied with sarcasm. Not sure why.

Thanks for agreeing with me that Taylor's coaching selections were terrible. Hopefully this week he cuts some of the dead weight and selects a team based on merit.

On merit? Both lower grades were smashed. Good lucking finding players who deserve selection from those sides.

Penrith handled the heat better than we did, more importantly, they handled the ball far better than we did and didn't bomb tries in the process.

How many times did we pass to Panther players? Maybe out of desperation trying to make something out of nothing.
Malcolm Knox: What has happened this week is a pity for the Tigers, a pity for Jason Taylor and a pity for Robbie Farah, who had achieved more than the Big Four put together but was somehow turned into collateral damage. (SMH 25-26 March, 2017)
