Half his tackles were third or fourth man flops? Some people need to look past their unfounded hatred for a young forward who always tightens up the the defence on the side he is playing. Today he ran hard, making good post contact metres and tackled everything that was thrown at him. If he wasn't first grade standard today, then I must have been at a different game.

Two coaches have now rated him as a first grade forward and I think I'll take their opinions over the haters.
I've got no hatred at all for him - just stated a fact that he's a flopper.
Also, the only way Cleary has him in firsts is due to injuries - do you think Littlejohn is a first grader as well?
The bloke tries hard but you don't have to be 'a hater' to form an opinion he's not up to first grade standard.
No, you stated an opinion that he's a flopper. not a fact. I don't understand how you can't see the defence tighten on his side when he plays. I don't know which second rower is injured atm but even if there is one, Lovett does his job well. He's not a champion but you need toilers like him in the side. One of our best today, from where I was sitting close to the play.
It's a fact if it happens .... I don't understand how you couldn't see it if you were that close.
That's not saying he doesn't give 100% effort, just that out of his 47 tackles there were plenty of flops.
He also doesn't make too many mistakes but unfortunately when he does they cost us.

I'd be fine with Lovett next year as a depth player. He does put in each time he's on the field and we have had plenty worse.
He's not going to win you any games but he'll do a job.

our biggest problem is the players around him are just too much the same and dont offer enough
in another team that doesnt need a impact player he would be fine

He needs to put on some size. Eg: josh Jackson size. Needs a good year and a half of bulking. He knows how to tackle some of the big boys one on one. Size will
Help him not getting bent backwards when running the ball.

Was going to say same thing lacks size for impact.

Needs to stay away from the Peruvian marching powder. Hard to bulk up when on that.

I dont rate him but his one of very few 2nd rowers with Stamina for 80 mins ( talking about our team)

And he looks no where as fatigued as Lawrence or MCK at the end of the 80mins too

I must admit, watching him yesterday he did seem to put in a lot more than he has in the past. He's got size as in height on he's side for a second rower, he now has to bulk up and have some mongrel in him that terrorfies the opposition. He did however fell off quite a few tackles, and made simple reserve grade mistakes during the game .. ie; dropped balls, silly penalties. Still not sold on him as being a 1st grader though, at this stage .. !!

Good effort to rack up 47 tackles, bad effort to drop the ball and gift Widdop a free run to score a try, a game changer.
Go hard or go home

What a ridiculous comment. If it's the incident that I think you're referring to, he got smashed from behind as soon as he caught the ball. I don't think much of Lovett, but really, let's not blast him for that.

I don't idolise Lovett but I think he gets a raw deal on the forum; I think a lot just jump on the bandwagon when they see a few negative posts without really looking at his game. None of our second rowers have much impact, so he shouldn't be singled out for that but he did run strongly yesterday with pretty good post impact metres. from the stats, he made 47 tackles and missed five which is pretty good for 80 minutes.

I just like a player to get out there and have a red hot go and he does that.

Yeah, if that's the reference it's a poor example because Nightingale blindsided Lovett as he waited for Taylor's lobbed offload and hit him at pace with all he had. Very few would gave been good or lucky enough to hold onto that.

That was a big play that went against us. I understand that it was a tough one but the impact of his dropped ball in that situation was huge. Maybe he was unlucky but he also dropped it cold against the Broncos. We can't afford mistakes like that.

I also think he cops it way too harshly and I think he is close to our best backrower now but those mistakes kill us.

I thought it showed a terrible lack of awareness to be honest. He was always going to cop a hit there and should have been braced accordingly.

Did he at least get a try assist. Whenever he has the ball you know nothing will happen no line break no offload only possibility is a drop ball, Plod on son.

He tackles. But his tackles are largely ineffective. He gets dominated. He doesn't shut down offloads. He doesn't slow down the play the ball. He rarely makes a one on one tackle.
Add to this his lack of any impact and error rate in defense and you have a highly ineffective player, who tries his guts out but has very little (positive) impact on a game

interestingly at the coaches night in 2015 david kidwell singled out kyle lovett as our best wrestler/defender. then again kidwell lead a star studded nz side to a draw against scotland.
