For mine this was the biggest of a few changes that Cleary made for today's match and thought it went well. Sue is much better suited to shorter bursts and he went well roving the middle as a lock for the first twenty.
Taylor playing semi middle player defensively on the early tackles, other than when play was on the other side of the field, also allowed his slowing down of the ruck to be utilised without tiring him too much. Add that to the direction he was giving to the two youngsters outside him and I think it worked really well this afternoon. Edwards went okay on the other side as well.
Cleary definitely got it right today with the use of the bench. Chee-Kam provides a bit of utility value in that he can play backrow/centre, but unless Suli was injured, I'm not sure there was any point taking him off. Could have kept Felise on the bench otherwise. I know it was only Newcastle, but Eisenhuth and Twal were both impressive and get through a lot of work. They definitely help keep the ruck tight. Edwards does bugger all with the ball, no different to Lovett, but he is a much more effective defender, he came up with good hits today.
