Re: Realistic team list round 1 2018
Probably, but I'd add Taylor as a starter for his leadership & defence, and Aloiai on the bench.greatodensraven wrote: ↑Mon 08 Jan, 2018 5:59 pmLooking at our squad now I think it’s fair to say every other spot besides the following is up for grabs. A little nerve-racking but exciting at the same time:
1. Tui
2. Nofo
6. Reynolds
7. Brooks
8. Packer
10. Matulino
13. Eiso
14. Twal

Yep. I don't think anyone can say for certain who will run out in remaining 9 positions much before R1 kicks offs. Which is more than half the spots in the 17.greatodensraven wrote: ↑Mon 08 Jan, 2018 5:59 pmLooking at our squad now I think it’s fair to say every other spot besides the following is up for grabs. 5. MWZ
9. Liddle
11. McQueen
12. Alioia
15. Sue
16. Taylor
17. Marshall
18th man Lawrence.
I really wanted to see Marsters progress this year in NRL however if Suli and Milne are 100% fit I'd say they are very slightly ahead at centre and I went Benji on the bench ahead of Marsters on the bench as a utility (only because of what he did for the Broncos from the bench in 2017). Taylor is my backrow option on the bench ,once again just ahead of Marsters because he can play all backrow positions as well as DH (he may even start at DH). I'm sure Marsters will get his chance soon enough.
Lawrence, Grant, Rochow, Kev, Fonua, MWZ will all be very good back ups. If any player in the 17 isn't 100% fit, they shouldn't start as all our replacements are experienced NRL players and there isn't much between them. So however is fittest should start.

I don't thihnk the HOOTH is a lock in pick, wouldn't surprise at all if he on the bench or maybe not in the 17.

tbh I reckon the backline picks itself.
1, tui
2 fonua
3 suli
4 milne
5 nofa
6 grub
7 brooksie
its the forwards that have me beat .hooker and the backrow could be anything.

fonua is definatly a handy back-up.....but didnt we want speed in our backline?...i thought MWZ was fitter and therefore faster over the offseasoncriwdfluffer wrote: ↑Tue 09 Jan, 2018 10:57 amyeah i cant agree...mwz is handy, but Fonua is potentially a game breaker.
surely Cleary hasnt bought him from the uk not to start.

2017 was a shocking season for the WestsTigers. However I don't think the Wests Tigers were really dominated in the forwards after Eisenhuth started at lock for the last 6 games of the year. Didn't he average something like 130 metres and a crap load of tackles. He had the ability to wrap the ball up and turn the ball carrier. His play was a bright end to a bad season. Why change one of the only good things out of 2017?criwdfluffer wrote: ↑Tue 09 Jan, 2018 9:43 amI don't thihnk the HOOTH is a lock in pick, wouldn't surprise at all if he on the bench or maybe not in the 17.

I'd start with Twal and have Packer off the bench. I think Packer can have real impact coming on fresh leaving the toiling start of the game to Twal.
ok, making the team:
1. lolo
2. nofo
3. masters
4. suli (milne if suli not fit)
5. MWZ
6. J.Rey
7. Brooks
8. Twal
9. Liddle
10. Matulino
11. Mcqueen
12. Taylor
13. Huth
14. Marshall
15. Packer
16. Sue
17. Aloiai
i like the look of that team

I completely agree. I think a likely backrow is Taylor at lock in the centre and Lawrence and McQueen as edge backrowers.criwdfluffer wrote: ↑Tue 09 Jan, 2018 9:43 amI don't thihnk the HOOTH is a lock in pick, wouldn't surprise at all if he on the bench or maybe not in the 17.
Personally I think I'd play Taylor on the right edge and play 3 props which is how most teams play now.
