Positional merry-go-round doesn't worry Thompson

Wests Tigers winger Corey Thompson says the prospect of playing another new position in 2018 doesn't phase him as he prepares to face his old team this Sunday.

After starting the year on the right wing, Thompson's strong form saw him moved to fullback for the past few weeks — his play at the back has been as sound as any Wests Tigers fan could have hoped for this year.

However, with Tuimoala Lolohea back from his knee injury and David Nofoaluma playing well on the right, Thompson finds himself in a new position this weekend, lining up on the left wing.

Those positional changes might affect some players, but for the 28-year-old, it's only positive.

"Yeah, I'm on the left wing now so I've been a bit everywhere at the moment," Thompson said.

But it's great. Tui [Lolohea] is a great player so it's great to have him back in the team. I'm just looking forward to a few long balls from him and hopefully getting a few tries as a result!

"Ivan [Cleary] said he was going to bring Tui back in and I was going to go back to the left wing — it doesn't bother me whether I play left wing or right wing or fullback.

"I really enjoy playing there, but if I get to stay a part of this team being on the wing, then I'm really happy.

"If I have to play front row to be there on the weekend, then so be it."

Thompson will form part of a new-look left edge for Wests Tigers this week, with the winger to join the recalled Mahe Fonua out wide — a prospect that certainly excites the diminutive Thompson.

"It's great to have him back in the side," said Thompson of Fonua.

"I'm on his side too so he can take that first hit up and beat four players and then I'll run.

"He's going to be doing some work this weekend," he laughed.

"But in all seriousness, I think he was disappointed in himself last weekend. He spoke to us about it and he's glad to be back and I'm really looking forward to seeing him run over some people."

Corey and Mahe could make a great combo. Mahe causes a lot of damage and Corey is a great finisher. Lots of potential for points out on that edge.

Really excited to see this combination, Mahe is a wrecking ball and with Thompson’s speed and elusiveness this could be the start of a salavating left edge.

tbf thompson and maybe ET are the only players who've played more than one position this year

we may have used quite a number of players but most have just been straight swaps.

corey will hover around fonua like a moth to a flame- he'll be looking at offloads

Champion bloke with a champion attitude. He personifies what Cleary is looking for - a team first attitude!

Rochow has played two positions in nearly every game.
