Sheens to call on Meaney

Tigers coach Sheens to call on NRL rookie Sean Meaney James Hooper From: The Daily Telegraph September 02, 2010
FROM the humble surrounds of being watched by 500 fans playing park football for Balmain-Ryde Eastwood to being bombarded by Scott Prince at Skilled Stadium.

This is the cauldron-like atmosphere Wests Tigers rookie Sean Meaney is about to be thrown into tomorrow night as the Concord-based club attempt to seal a top two NRL finish.

Tigers coach Tim Sheens has had his hand forced by a cruel injury toll, with fullback Wade McKinnon and centre Chris Lawerence both injured during last weekend's victory over the Storm.

Fast running out of options, Sheens today named rookie fullback Meaney - who has played just three minutes of NRL against the Bulldogs earlier this year - as the man most likely to fill the custodian role against the Titans.

One guarantee, Gold Coast skipper Scott Prince will be raining torpedo bombs his way should Meaney get the call-up.

“Sean Meaney may be looked at at full-back and I may keep Mitch Brown in the centres “ Sheens said.

“Sean is a specialist full-back who represented NSW Residents this year and played well. He has played very well in the Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers side that has done well. I’m looking at maybe giving him a start.”

Meaney trained with the Tigers during their final run at Concord Oval yesterday.

If given the starting gig of no1 Meaney will not let anyone down, could even cause Sheens some selection head aches further down the final series

Hope he gets more than the 3 minutes that Sheens gave him on his debut and after news that Geoff Daniella is out I hope that Matty Ryan gets a run as well, the ultimate utility player, goes hard at both centre and 2nd row, just like his DAD, what a great fathers day present it could be............

It makes sence with Daniela out, and leaving Fitzy on the bench to cover many positions...

Have we heard who else is travelling with the team?

Wests Tigers Under 20's and the fighting spirit of Lleyton Giles....

Sean Meaney is the right option from Sheens ...I hope the kid rips up and cements a spot in the finals.....

Lee Bennet was definatley up there.

If Sheens does decide to rest a player or two it would be really great to see Lee get his NRL debut. But as long as we give everything we have on the field I will be ok with it
