There will be no new Balmain Leagues Club at Rozelle but there will be a goat farm & gluten free bakery (not open on Sundays & public holidays of course).
Going forward we will once again be kept in the dark & have to speculate re: what action Wests Ashfield will take to keep a team in the NRL.
You make a good point there, I really can see the space becoming a community growers garden or something once the developers knick off.
I just don't get it, I love balmain the club and all, but I don't expect much of these trendy artsy farts myself included, to give 2 thumbs up about a old fashioned leagues club, he'll half the pubs aren't pubs in Balmain /Rozelle anymore.
Why doesn't the club just bite the bullet and try and establish themselves in an area where it is a little bit more knock about, Croydon or Petersham or something. They aren't going to be restablishing this place once again in Rozelle,
I bet those developers wouldn't be knocked back if that bottom floor was an extra 4 units and not a 'CLUB'
Why don't the tigers request to put a gym on that ground floor instead, would definiitly have more chance of adding something that the communitee can use. Go look at another area to build the club in.
Silly silly people, should of bought the Appia club when they were basically knocking on their front door to sell it. What's that a leagues club right next to your home ground? Oh that will never work  .... Rant over!

Why would he buy it? Specializes in apartment development, and the basket weaving council have already showed their views on allowing medium/high density residential development on the site.

The sad thing is Balmain have nothing to gain by the sale,I guess their only hope is they can at lease some of he space off th new developer to stat up a club again, but that would come at a premium price.

You wonder how they ever got themselves into this mess in the firs place, gross mismanagement comes to mind

One of the troubles for Balmain Tigers was that over the past century they did not plan ahead for expansion and also not expecting to have a huge and lavish casino on their border soaking up the gambling dollars.

I have noticed many other clubs when had restricted-size premises over the generations bought up surrounding properties at a decent price when they came on the market, and usually only one at a time. Balmain bought up their surrounding properties in a hurry, simultaneously, paid premium price and got themselves into debt.

The only method I could imagine a Tigers club succeeding would be to have buses ship WT supporters back after a game to lighten their pockets and to have laugh or cry over a result.
Malcolm Knox: What has happened this week is a pity for the Tigers, a pity for Jason Taylor and a pity for Robbie Farah, who had achieved more than the Big Four put together but was somehow turned into collateral damage. (SMH 25-26 March, 2017)

Work on a metro train line linking Sydney's CBD with Parramatta, in the city's west, will start within five years, the State Government has announced.

The Sydney Metro West line will link the city, the western suburbs, the inner-city Bays Precinct and Sydney Olympic Park.......................................

Just on the news sale price around 70 to 80 million...this puts the Balmain Tigers in a very bad position as there is no moving forward ,they have a huge debt to the NRL paying interest on the debt .Unfortunatly I think the end is not to far off I doubt the 2 small clubs they have will pull them out of trouble .Looks like full ownership to the Magpies this has been a very sorry tale ,I do agree with the developer on one thing though just stated the politicians were gutless to make any decisions.

Developer is laughing all the way to the bank...he paid $1 for the land (inherited the $20m debt), will sell it for $70-80m netting a coll $50m + profit....

Why oh why did Balmain sell this club?
