Ryan Papenhuyzen
Re: Ryan Papenhuyzen
Is he back training with the full time squad yet?
I believe he is with a group of NYC boys doing preseason with NSW cup team, will be interesting to see what the club does with him, they took up the 3rd year option on him in 2017. Has now finished his HSC so can hopefully have a great pre-seasonpalms wrote:Is he back training with the full time squad yet?

If he's fit he'd be with the NRL squad until Christmas, then maybe NSW Cup after the break - unless he's been ripping it up bigtime in which case they might keep him on a bit longer.nipper652 wrote:I believe he is with a group of NYC boys doing preseason with NSW cup team, will be interesting to see what the club does with him, they took up the 3rd year option on him in 2017. The same way Suli is training with the NRL boys now, as did Paseka last year. All the top kids do.
Not sure what you mean about a 3rd year option though. He only made his debut for the Wests Tigers halfway through last season so wouldn't have had a contract from us before then as he was playing for Balmain.
He signed for 2 years in 2015, WT had an option in their favour on him for 2017Balmain Boy wrote:If he's fit he'd be with the NRL squad until Christmas, then maybe NSW Cup after the break - unless he's been ripping it up bigtime in which case they might keep him on a bit longer.nipper652 wrote:I believe he is with a group of NYC boys doing preseason with NSW cup team, will be interesting to see what the club does with him, they took up the 3rd year option on him in 2017. While i get what you mean, he was an amateur athlete. Wouldn't have signed anything at age 15. Contracts are invalid (non legally binding) at that age but he would have registered with Balmain and agreed to play SG Ball for them. He probably would have accepted a scholarship from WT or something like that though..nipper652 wrote:He signed for 2 years in 2015, WT had an option in their favour on him for 2017Balmain Boy wrote:If he's fit he'd be with the NRL squad until Christmas, then maybe NSW Cup after the break - unless he's been ripping it up bigtime in which case they might keep him on a bit longer.nipper652 wrote:I believe he is with a group of NYC boys doing preseason with NSW cup team, will be interesting to see what the club does with him, they took up the 3rd year option on him in 2017. Cheers for the update once again lads
I had a kid working for me that did the exact same thing, At the same age - His contract was with an NRL club, But he spent the first year in their system with one of their local sides and then 2 years in the 20's... So it can and does happen.Balmain Boy wrote:While i get what you mean, he was an amateur athlete. Wouldn't have signed anything at age 15. For anyone that missed it, Ryan signed back in May to a three year deal with the storm.

He will join them at the end of this season.
It will be great to follow his progress over the next few years, but supplying the Melbourne Storm with players is starting to become a tad tiresome.

Watching him this year I think he'll be more Mullaney then Tedesco
Poor kid, would have been better off staying here...
Storm spine is covered for the next decade...
Jerome Hughs and Munster ahead of him

He's no loss in any event.

Yep didnt do enough in NYC when fit to pay overs to retain. A great junior who will never have the physicality to be a long term first grade IMO, not unlike Mullaney as someone else observed.
Hope he proves me wrong ... and comes back to the Tigers in a few years.
