Manly will be right, they'll get docked 12 points this year, pay a fine, sign whomever they want after that and then make the top four next year.

but tonight on the news TRENT stated that they still had room in there cap to buy a new 5/8. sounds like someone is telling porkies. or there just like 5-6 other sides in the comp who get away with everything.
I reckon Trent Hodkinson will go back to Manly now. They need a 5/8 and he will come fairly cheap, they certainly can't afford the big bikkies now. They will have to shed a few still though - probably Lewis Brown, Hastings and George Taufua, won't be anyone of note, I reckon.

God knows how they ended up so far over the cap. Apart from the 2 Turbos, Taupau, DCE, Walker & Uate, they really don't have anyone of note. Not compared to the Roosters, Broncos, Penrith & Sharks that's for sure.
It would have been last year when they still had Steve Matai and Brett Stewart on their books on big money and couldn't get them medically retired.

Just like Parra and the Dogs recovered within two years so will Manly...

Most if not all teams are playing Russian Roulette with the TPA's and the CAP...deep down they don't give a rats if they get caught, the chances of success(and the riches that come with it) far outweigh the chances of getting caught....

The sooner the NRL bans TPA the better....but how to enforce it?

Bingo, and you can bet your bottom dollar the one time they'll nail a club to the wall over it, it will be a team like us or Newcastle.

We've had a couple of busts due to so called whistle blowers, where the NRL has no option but to act or be severely embarrassed. If ever an area of the game needed reform it is TPAs but for obvious inner eastern city reasons, this will never happen.

This has been a five year investigation BP , there is a chance they are under the cap now

I think this will have to do back when they were keeping Watmong and all of those freaks under one cap /sombrero

When you start sacking coaches , keeping one player (DCE) and sacking club legends and then forcing CEO's to resign you need to have your books clean .......

Do you think Manly or any other club are really concerned with the punishment. It has no bearing on what happens in 2018, they just pay a hefty fine and move on. There is no deterrent except some financial inconvenience.

In the last 24 years there has not been a repeat winner of the NRL premiership.
It's even been 10 years since a club played in back to back Grand Finals.
There's always going to be a issues.. but the salary cap works and good roster management is still the best way to win a competition.
Melbourne won last year because of good roster management - a mix of highly paid veteran greats with underpaid and over performing rookies and old cheapsies ..great coaching and development and culture.
Tigers have been under performing in recent years because they've been paying 1/5 of their salary cap to play for other clubs (Farah, Moses, Sironen etc plus Ballin).
Roster management matters.. don't pay 500k to re-sign Koribete - let him go and pay 100k for Addo-Carr who does exactly the same thing.
My point is.. the system kinda works.. well managed clubs rise to the surface and poor ones stay poor. Salary cap rorting is over-stated in my opinion.. but hey gives everyone something to be outraged about in the off-season

Well it will SC

The salary cap penalties will be added to their 2018 cap

So in reality they only have a $ 9 million cap , not $9.4 million

But can the NRL make a positive out of this IF they have the balls

So they come like they did with the Parra with a big presso

And then tell the fans and all 16 clubs if they have another salary cap fiasco linked to TPA's they will completely scrap TPA's

So then if the clubs do the wrong thing they then punish themselves ......

Make the clubs accountable for their futures

Obviously the game is too big a business now to surfer any real damage from these types of things, but how disappointing that we can't be even bigger and better because of our toothless leadership.

Manly have had a question mark over them for just about every dodgy thing you can do, "sports science", quickly cleared, "match fixing" nothing to see here, salary cap rumours yearly, shocking governance.

Every time we hear about these clubs I'm reminded of this

I can't get over how a story this big just disappears. I guess newscorp need to protect their investment.

Can I get a job with the NRL in the cap auditing team? They do nothing. Every club caught has been due to a disgruntled insider.
The cap compliance team couldn't find their ass with both hands. Every club caught just shows what a scam the supposed cap is, and how little integrity the NRL has. As someone pointed out there has been no discussion about Maloney waiting on Penrith to organise his illegal 3rd party deal.
The funniest thing is the last couple of sides caught cannot compete even when cheating. Talk about incompetence

I think Greenberg carries too much baggage on this front.
His close links to the high end of town is also in question.
For mine he was always a bad choice for NRL CEO position.

Well I think losing all your points for an entire season and having 2 Premierships taken off you is a pretty good example of a club being nailed to the wall.

How exactly would you find out a player has been given cash by a “sponsor” under the table... just explain your investigative methodology.. I’m guessing you wouldn’t have a clue where to look...

De-register the Scum and bring back the Bears!, after all Norths held the license at the end of the Super Greed war only to be stabbed in the back by Manly, Norths met the criteria at the time while Manly were broke hence the sudden and ultimately unsuccessful joint venture.
