Done deal?

Agreed to terms?

Am I missing something regarding the above comments? Ivan is contracted to the end of 2020. If WT aren't releasing him, he goes nowhere.

It's pretty simple.
You have to remember though that Ivan Cleary could walk in today, clear out his locker and be coaching the Panthers this afternoon. We couldn't handcuff him and short of an injunction, it is possible. Unlikely, but possible.
Doesn't mean the CEO didn't do the best he could.....

I think a temporary injunction would be granted in a heartbeat.

Yeah, I agree Nelson. Just putting it out there though that whilst the club can do everything they can, it may not be enough in the long run. Doesn't mean we should bash the CEO because the coach left.

Yeah I agree 100%. If something underhanded happens though I hope the club takes the opportunity to remind the NRL and clubs generally how the legal system actually regards contracts and those that dishonour them, or induce others to do so.

I hope someone goes to the effort of constructing a timeline of all the blatant lies he has told all year. It’s just one after the other with this guy. No sane person should ever believe a thing he says. His credibility is gone but with his arrogance he probably believes what he’s saying.
Gould is making a big mistake , mark my words

This could be the making of the WT's

He is obviously so obsessed with keeping NC , he will do anything to keep him

And if Pascoe can play smart and the board hangs tough , we can screw Penrith's and Gould's ass to the wall
Yeah, I agree Happy. WestsTigers have the moral high ground and the legal advantage. However, the fly in the ointment is what to do with Cleary now. It would seem that he has betrayed the trust of the fans, playing group and stakeholders. This will take some thought. I'm glad I'm not in Pascoe's position at the moment, but I would love to be in his office as an observer!

If Gus was working for the Tigers, we would say this move is a master stroke.

He hasn't delivered Penrith a Premiership (yet), but he has taken them from the brink of bankruptcy to be a genuine heavyweight with a bright future.

Just too bad his latest escapades have effected our club in such a devastating fashion.

Gus would be our hero if he was employed for the Tigers. He's not much different from Uncle Nick, just far more in the public eye with his wheelings and dealings.

He knows footy and he knows how to get what he wants. He makes Teflon Tim Sheens look like cheese baked on steel.
Yep, I’d like to have either him or Uncle Nick at our club any time.

I understand what you are saying about our current season

Comes down to mental strength , playing for pride , no excuses

Something Ivan has drilled into them no doubt

I think we need to put ourselves in Ivan's shoes , anyone offers me a position no matter how bad or good it seems I listen

Ivan has that right at the very least and seeing his son is part of that package you can't blame him for seriously considering it

Uncle Nick truly is The Supremo - he does all his dealings in private, nobody squeaks and he never has to contradict himself. Nobody understands how the Roosters do what they do, and maybe they are cheating, but nobody's proven it. Of all the salary cap cheating uncovered the last 15 years, nobody has fingered Roosters.

Gus Gould I don't think is any less shrewd, but with his lucrative media roles, he gets found out in lies a lot. He has certainly become very Trumpian - regular tweets, often making incredulous statements which turn out to be lies (or "the truth at the time"), lots of spin on his comments etc. If he didn't have the media presence, and perhaps the ego (although I haven't met Gould and I assume Politis has a fair ego himself), then he wouldn't be such an easy target to attack.

I see Gould as a kind of more eloquent Rex Mossop in the media - divisive, knowledgeable; tries to make out that everything is black/white when it's actually grey, runs a narrative to suit his own needs, but still loves the game ever so slightly more than he loves himself.

We would recall that Gould didn't seek the job at Penrith, they begged him to take it. At one point moons ago, Gould was considering taking on a similar role at Tigers. I am sure lots of clubs like Roosters and Bulldogs have also spoken to Gould in the past.

Agreed. We had no problems when it looked like NC was going to get out of next year's contract to come to us.
There's no moral high ground we can take just because we're gonna be the losers.

Reports are now saying that Ivan was the one to suggest the immediate move to Panthers and may have even engineered it. Thus Gould's comment about when the truth comes out he will be the one deserving an apology from irate and abusive Tigers fans.
It's hard to know what to believe, but I am sure Gould hasn't sacked Griffin without knowing who his next coach is going to be. If Ivan has been a part of this it really is an unforgivable betrayal and I can't see the club or players getting over it too quickly.

Sensibly put. It's a reality we should all think about. I don't begrudge him considering a rival offer, not one bit. It may even firm his resolve with us if it goes our way.

"I have been wronged." With these four words, sacked @PenrithPanthers coach Anthony Griffin is set to shake one of rugby league’s strongest clubs to its core in a blockbuster interview on @FOXNRL's #NRL360 tonight at 6.30pm.

Anthony Griffin will tell his story on NRL 360.Source: FOX SPORTS
“I HAVE been wronged.”

And what he has to say will cast a shadow over the all-powerful Phil Gould.

In fact, it’s doubtful anyone in the game will look at Gus the same way again.

“I have done an exceptional job with that club and the Panthers have been successful. I am here to defend myself,” Griffin says.

Tonight at 6.30pm, Griffin sets the record straight on Fox League’s NRL 360. All the spin, selective leaking and media manipulation since Griffin’s sacking have become too much for a man who believes his coaching record speaks for itself.

Join Paul Kent, Ben Ikin and Paul Crawley on NRL 360 for the only interview that matters.

For those with 30mins to kill, download Phil Goulds podcast out today.

Of no surprise is the following:

Gus Gould claims that he was on Griffins side. He claims that the club board wanted to terminate Griffin months ago and he talked them out of it. He also said he was 'instructed' by the board to terminate Griffin on Monday because he knew Ivan Cleary would be talking to Pascoe about his future. Poor Gus, unfortunately has been completely contradicted by Panthers CEO Brian Fletcher who said in a 2ky podcast yesterday that he was instructed by Gould to terminate Griffin.
Someone is lying. Shock horror.

He also states he has never, even until today spoken to Ivan Cleary about coming to Penrith and to his knowledge, NO ONE from Penrith has offered Ivan Cleary any contract whatsoever, even up until now!
Someone is lying. If Cleary hasn't been offered anything, what is he contemplating?

What is clear in the podcast is the Gould has played no part in anything, and has not told anyone or been aware of anyone speaking to Cleary about returning to Penrith......according to Gould.

If Gould is telling the truth, then he cannot control people at his own club. If Gould is lying, he is a dog.

Either way, this bloke is a fool or a grub, or both.

EDIT - He also said he does not believe Cleary will coach the Panthers in 2019 because he has not been offered anything and it has not been discussed. Seems a lot is going on without fatso's knowledge.

Gus's podcast today.

You can tell he doesn't like Pascoe, keeps referring to him as "Ivan is going to talk to his mate Pascoe"

Was he wronged when the Broncos kicked him out amid reports of player unrest,. now the next club kicks him out for similar reports, some from players themselves,
I dont know what some people expect him to say,
Hes just been sacked for the second straight time and stories have been coming out through the season about his coaching.
Does anyone really believe that he would come out and say, 'I got booted because i was a crap Coach , and at least two clubs agreed on that, , I couldnt train a Choko vine up a wall,"

His interview was an application for another (Probably unlikely) coaching job,
Hes probably the only person whose likely to talk him up
