2016 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Round 1.

Post by GoldXR50Leroy » Sun 31 Jan, 2016 6:08 pm

Overnight saw the opening round of this historic competition where the Amateur clubs have their chance in the spotlight and try to spring some major upsets, the weather is very poor in the UK at the moment so while most scores were close with a few nail biters there were a couple of blow outs, Home team listed first.

London Chargers 14 Shaw Cross 22
Thatto Heath 16 Hunslet Club Parkside 23
Aberdeen Warriors 16 Northumbria University 42
Stanningley 16 Pilkington Recs 28
Norman Knights 18 Distington 31
West Bowling 0 Lock Lane 16
Leigh Miners Rangers 14 Underbank Rangers 20
East Leeds 0 Oulton Raiders 32
Millom 32 University Of Hull 14
Royal Navy 18 Featherstone Lions 20
Widnes West Bank 20 Rochdale Mayfield 38
Wathbrow Hornets 26 Royal Air Force 4
Hull Dockers 8 Thornhill Trojans 6
Egremont Rangers 64 Blue Bulls 0
Kells 30 Nottingham Outlawa 0
York Acorn 36 Sharlston Rovers 10

Tonight sees the British Army V Siddal and West Hull V Great Britain Police
Have some fun and Google the sides, there were 2 sides this year I had never come across.

I see they have a coppers side

Bet they have some interesting games

Back in 70's and 80's in the old BRL in the Under 18's they had a Police Academy side (which was actually Bennett's first coaching gig )

Although we didn't watch every PA game we'd go and watch my Uncle play who played for Watto's Easts Tigers probably every 2nd weekend

The intensity always lifted for the Police Academy games

The Academy had this handy centre who when the mood struck would turn into a wrecking machine that was unstoppable

Meet Malcolm Meninga

Actually the Blue Bulls player is in the Dark Blue jumper, far from taking the piss they should be supported, alas both the Scottish & Welsh sides bowed out in the First Round, there is more Rugby League apart from the NRL BTW!.
