Akira Kurosawa is one of my favourite directors of all time and I love Hidden Fortress but, whilst Lucas has always said the themes in HS influenced Star Wars, to suggest the story in Star Wars was "lifted" from HS is stretch. Very different movies.

This is not like Seven Samurais (another Kurosawa classic) and Magnificent Seven. Both great films but the latter was clearly "lifted" from the former.

Whilst I agree SS (Mag Seven), Rashomon (Outrage) and Yojimbo (A Fistful of Dollars) were remade by Hollywood (assuming you regard Sergio Leone as Hollywood in the case of AFOD) but what movie do you say was based on Sanjuro?

Yeah, I didn't mean to insinuate that Star Wars was a carbon copy, far from it.

Sanjuro was the sequel to Yojimbo, I assumed "For a few dollars more" was based on it. I've not seen the sequels for to a fistful of dollars so I just came to that assumption.

Seven Samurai is one of my all time favourite movies. I am still trying to get my wife to spend three and a bit hours watching it with me.

Adults dressing up and going to see a kids fantasy movie just seems weird to me.
