we're lucky generally all Australians think along the same lines.
American's are not God fearing though. My other side of the family won't shut the hell up about Jesus.
Actually, that's what God fearing is - devoutly religious.

Does anybody else wonder whether this incident was actually as reported...

i.e. a retired accountant in his mid-60's, extremely wealthy, and with literally zero criminal record, would just decide to purchase 20 + weapons and shoot out of his hotel window in vegas, then kill himself before police could get to him?

Skepticism is probably a healthy position to take in alot of these instances.
Not skeptical of how reported and it could simply be mental illness. Just got to look at the dollar figure being spent around the world as countries arm themselves to realise this problem in the USA is a significant portion of their economy. The growth has been steady no matter who has been in the Whitehouse.

I'm pretty open minded with conspiracy theories, unless they are totally idiotic like the Sandy Hook and Pizzagate conspiracies. People like Alex Jones should be locked up for promting theories that incite idiots to take the law into their own hands. As a result of those 2 conspiracies being given oxygen, one guy went and shot up the pizza place, and a woman was charged for harrassing one of the parents whose child died in the Sandy Hook massacre. Its sick, but i digress. Not saying i believe the theories about there being more shooters here, but its interesting given where people claim to have seen and heard the shots. Plus the shooters background. There are similarties here with the JFK assassination in regards to where the shots came from and how many shooters there were. Makes for interesting discussion at the very least.

Until enough Americans decide enough is enough and want to change something these massacres will continue to happen. They have their regular excuses, terrorism, thugs, mental illness, and they will use these to justify what happens. Their solution to the problem is more guns.
Try reading some of the YouTube comments on videos of the footage. Someone outside the US will commemt and say how ridiculous the gun laws are, amd how the death toll is lower in their country, and all Americans getting fired up in response. One reply was "Thanks for the advice, I'll keep sleeping with my piece next to me. To paraphrase Jim Jeffries, what kind of neighbourhood are you living in, to feel the need to sleep with a gun. I've been sleeping without a gun for 30 years and I've always been safe. The moral is, never question an American about their gun. They don't don't take too kindly to it.
Piers Morgan basically got driven off TV over there on the subject, it;s ridiculous. I've never had a moment in my life where I have wished I had a gun on me, the whole gun culture will forever be a mystery to me.

I could never carry a gun, even if it were absolutely necessary. Again, an aspect of their culture that baffles me.

Sad really but this is his father on the FBI registry.

Benjamin Hoskins Paddock appeared on the agency's infamous registry from June 10, 1969 through May 5, 1977 and was described in an FBI poster as being "diagnosed as psychopathic" and as an individual
reported to have "suicidal tendencies" who "has carried firearms in commission of bank robberies

It's bad but have you ever tried talking reason to an American on gun laws. It's impossible. Nothing will change.
Mate they are unbelievable. I carry a gun for work and shoot competitively on weekends, I reload my own ammo so I'm a gun advocate provided they are in the right hands. I'm a member on a couple of US shooting forums and boy oh boy do they lose the plot as soon as gun control is mentioned.

They have this deep seated misconception that the government is corrupt and tyrannical (that's another debate) and at any stage may decide to come for the people and when they do they'll take up their guns and overthrow them.

They think because we can't walk in off the street over here and buy a semi-automatic rifle that our freedoms have been repressed and we're all brainwashed by the Australian government. I've got a couple of mates in the FBI and they are astounded that only our fulltime specialist police units carry assault rifles. As for the general NRA members, I pity their attitude.

Always goes back to the 2nd amendment Aka the right to bear Arms.
They also say it ain't the guns it's the people but you need the gun to trigger and fire the bullet. The people that are saying that need to face the facts. You could also go and buy a gun in America right now even after the shooting. They also need a nation wide data base to see who can and can't get guns.
I have family in Balmain and the Western suburbs so i guess that makes me a Balmain Westie

It's disturbing when you read through YouTube comments and see how many Americans know how specific rifles should sound, talking about it like we talk about footy.

If the Sandy Hook shooting didn't change their landscape, nothing will..,if you can stomach young children being murdered and not change things, than i'm afraid nothing will.

Bringing in more guns won't change anything either.

You are correct but there are some americans who believe that it never happened and others who believe that it did happen but was perpetrated by people who are trying to get guns banned in the usa.Unfortunately you can not change peoples minds who suffer from tunnel vision.

Just one question I've always wanted to ask.

Where are all these gun loving yanks that buy their guns for protection when some halfwit starts shooting everyone in site.

I don't know anything about their laws on guns but just once i would love to see a story where this loving family man out with his family stopped a massacre by shooting the nutter.
Happens more than you would think ...

I doubt there is a less credible news source outside of north korea than the one you are quoting.
So you're saying the examples are incorrect?

If not, then what's your point?
Breitbart are famous for just making stuff up. Unless something they say can be confirmed on a main stream news service by default you can assume they are lying, or at best highly exaggerating their position.

Because we all know that main stream news services are the beacon of integrity.

Im more than familiar with Breitbart, although i stopped following them when Ben Shapiro resigned.

If you click on the link it is simply 20 examples of gun owners using their weapons against bad guys. I have checked some of the examples, they are real.

Sad what happen over in Vegas. And sad when the wrong people get there hands on high powered and automatic weapons.

I don't know enough about the weapons or laws to enter the debate, but I read Switzerland has a large gun to population ratio (not automatic weapons) and the automatic weapons is in my opinion is the real issue. Why do they need automatic high powered weapons?

Firearms are usefull in certain cases (farmers, animal control etc) and can be an enjoyable sport to the enthusiast. When in Vegas my son and I went to a range and fired all sorts of weapons - the rule was you had to be older than 8! That was one of my highlights on the trip.

Until that day I had never fired a weapon, I was 46 at the time but I had a great time and could see why people enjoyed shooting.

The right to arms is in the US constitution, they were bought up on that right and take it seriously so to ask them to change that mentality would be like asking Abraham to accept gay marriage.

We have strict gun laws in Australia and while we don't have mass shootings we have our share of gun related crime.

I am not nor have I ever been a conspiracy theorist. But one question keeps ringing in my ears. Where are all the spent casings and why are there no burn marks on the carpet? They estimated that he would have loosed around 2500-3000 rounds in ten minutes yet there were what they described as "dozens of cases on the carpet" and it really did look like they had been thrown around the room rather than spat out in a regular pattern near the window like you would expect. I'm not saying it was set up by anti gun lobbyists or anything else but something is very fishy about it all. Also, the number of guns keeps changing, originally it was ten, then twenty then twenty seven. And how did a guy in his mid sixties get them all up there unnoticed?
Americans are quite simply the dumbest nation on the planet. The ignorance is nothing short of astounding. I know quite a few and my seven year old has more sense and smarts than any of them.
You will never sell logic to an American, they just aren't wired that way. Like women......
