Kicking game

Post by hybrid_tiger » Sat 07 Apr, 2012 2:01 am

Just look at the difference between the Broncos and us tonight in kicking games.

Ours was once again completely dreadful, just as it has been for years and years and years.

Short kicking: Garbage. Did we even earn one repeat set?

Long kicking: Pathetic. Almost every long kick went straight down the throat of a Broncos player.

We will not go anywhere without a 7 who has a controlling kicking game.

Exactly right HT
So why does Farah do all the kicking with the occasional Benji kick tossed in ?
Pick A 7 AND LET HIM PLAY THE 7S ROLE
No not in a Sheens team .
Sheens is the problem in this team .
Our kicking game has struggled since Prince left ,Anasta will make a huge difference but its looking like 2012 is already on its way out for Wests.

Couldn't agree more. You need to be at the game to appreciate how bad our kicking game actually is. Humble is no half back.I watched him during warm up the only kick he practiced was a flat kick from half way into the in goal.Problem was there was no opposition players so what does he do during the game , straight to a player sitting on the 20 first tackle 10 from our half.I pinpointed that one but all of our kicks were below standard.

Humble should go into hooker on the last two tackles of a set, set dual kicking options to remove some pressure

If our sets were structured to finish somewhere centred between the sidelines that may be OK, but still farah can kick from DH....its really only two poor options occasionally instead of one.

Its the same as everything, the kickings inconsistent, more often poor than good but on the rare occasion we have seen great kicks from both...but all too rare

Helps when you have some semblnce of field position before the kick There were times last night we were kicking from inside our own 30

x2 When kicking from deep inside your own territory the opposition fullback has greater time to reach the ball on the full as most of the time a kick will be a mix between a mid field bomb and a punt and will travel at a higher height and will most likely be a little misguided. But when kicking from around the halfway mark you can stab a fast and low trajectory kick in between fullback and wingers. Our goal for each set should be to work the ball to the middle of the field and kick for field position and only do the "fancy" stuff opposition territory.

This is why Braith Anasta is coming next year. Maybe then we'll finally have a good kicking game. Field position helps but so does hitting the ground every now and then and not kicking 90% of attacking grubbers into the advertising hoardings...
