Taylor moved to right edge

Post by formerguest » Sun 02 Jul, 2017 5:18 pm

For mine this was the biggest of a few changes that Cleary made for today's match and thought it went well. Sue is much better suited to shorter bursts and he went well roving the middle as a lock for the first twenty.

Taylor playing semi middle player defensively on the early tackles, other than when play was on the other side of the field, also allowed his slowing down of the ruck to be utilised without tiring him too much. Add that to the direction he was giving to the two youngsters outside him and I think it worked really well this afternoon. Edwards went okay on the other side as well.

Well picked up. There Was a difference in the middle. I couldn't put my finger on it until you mentioned that. Things worked better from the forwards to the backs.
Ivan "Billy Beane from Moneyball" Cleary!

I think he is better in the middle but I also think it might be better for the team to play him on the edge. He doesn't do anywhere near as much on the edge though.

Sue used to start at 13 and I liked him in that role.

Well spotted. I couldn't work out what was going on. Bit complicated for mine but worked well. Sue is much better used this way. There were a few things different today. Well done Ivan.
Need more props.

Am i right in saying he played right edge? He at least played most of the game attacking as an edge player.

IMO this is what we need. He ran hard and good lines giving us a genuine option. His attack was simplified to hole running and he looked good.

It also gave us a bigger middle.

Hello 2018.

Admit it Geo and Earl, i was right and you were wrong, Elijah is an edge player.

I reckon the team looked better because as you state we had a bigger middle but ET does less on edge. It's a tough one for me to judge. It was also against Newcastle.

You are right though that we need those middle players to belt it up and that isn't ET's strong point.

I'd like to see something like this v Manly:

8. Woods
10. Seumanufagai
11. Lawrence
12. ET
13. Twal

14. Sue
15. Grant
16. Eisenhuth

Nelson - I also think we need 3 starting props and 3 off the bench. The manly pack will still probably tear us apart but we need to do our best to compete in the middle.

Seems you picked up what I noticed as well and seeing him in the middle in defence confused the change a bit, but it was generally only early in the count.

I too have proposed he play on the edge a bit, even if just for the opening to give us a bigger starting middle, but also help him to get through a quality eighty. I quite liked the variant that Cleary put in place today and wouldn't mind a look at seeing how splitting his roles per above goes as well.

Definately agree its tough to judge being against Newcastle. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Thus his mixed role works and output is stable as he doesn't tire.

Edwards defended Brooks inside shoulder very well.
Still not enough to get a new contact in my opinion but well done today Edwards.
