Struggling Parramatta Eels ready to clean out underperforming players at end of 2018, says The Mole

Post by Newtown » Tue 17 Apr, 2018 3:47 pm

The under-performing Eels are preparing for a cleanout at the end of the season after paying massive ‘overs’ to sign Raiders prop Junior Paulo for 2019.

Paulo, a Kiwi who began his career at the Eels, is all but done on a four-year deal worth over $600,000 a season - money his current club Canberra simply couldn’t match.

Already dead and buried as a finals contender, the Eels are planning for 2019 and have several other big-name targets.

But that means players will have to go, and the club is set to cut up to 10 members of its current roster to complete a makeover for next year.

A host of big names, including Kirisome Auva'a, David Gower, Jarryd Hayne, George Jennings, Cameron King, Suaia Matagi, Kaysa Pritchard, Beau Scott, Peni Terepo, Siosaia Vave and Tony Williams are off contract and many will be told they are free to leave.

The Eels are also likely to offer other players who are under contract for 2019 to rival clubs to free up more space in the salary cap.

Throw in Moses and we might have a pretty serviceable ball boy core :)

T-Rex went well against us for his 30 min stint. He got Parra going.
Could be hit and miss though.

Vave is a handy impact prop when he's on. He was going well at Manly when Parra signed him but I haven't sighted him this year. If we lost Sue to a more lucrative offer (which has to be a chance) then he might be worth a look.

If they're gonna clear out 'under-performing' players then Moses and Norman should be on that list.

Moses may be a protected species due to his managers net of players

Too much responsibility.. And the poor ball would start getting the blame for stuff all of a sudden.

They have lost 6 games for a reason.

A definite no from me to all their rejects. Only King Gutho is the only player I would take and Parramatta would not let him go.

Our only worry is Parramatta may sniff around at our players which is my biggest concern.

Majority of our players are locked up for next year.
