I don’t think Ivan will return back to Penrith. I think Ivan would lose all of the credibility that he has built up over the years. Especially by going grovelling back to Penrith would undermine him as an intelligent NRL coach.
If he decides to go back to Penrith ( or anywhere else for that matter)when his contract expires, he wont lose any credibility at all.
He will owe nothing at all to us and will be a competely free agent, and can go wherever he wants to.
In firm agreeance with you for once GCT.

Penrith banking on IC to sign deal with them from 2021, hoping Wests Tigers will see no point in hanging on to someone who is leaving going forward therefore releasing IC to start next year. Thats the plan. The only fly in the ointment is our club. Ivan has said he will honour his contract and therefore will not risk publicly going back on his word. It's up to Wests Tigers to continue our stance and maintain the moral and ethical high ground by enforcing the contract so our club maintains the momentum it is building. The incompetence of Penriths board in leaking information and going off prematurely should not be allowed to derail this club.

The reality of this whole sage is:

1. Any "commitment" Cleary makes beyond his contract basically gives up the goose on what Nathan is doing with his contract.
2. Any "commitment" Nathan makes beyond his contract basically gives up the goose on what Ivan is doing with his contract.

One side is going to be very disappointed and both teams are in finals contention.

Whether Ivan says nothing (as he has done) or he makes a statement that he wants to either stay at the Tigers beyond 2020 or move to the Panthers, it's a lose/lose as far as media storms go. Vice versa for his son Nathan.

This might just be the lesser of 2 evils.
This is the reality of it. What Nathan announces gives the game away. It's a great point.

This whole thing will blow up again once Nathan makes his announcement. We can only hope it's in our favour.
Its an opinion!

How you feeling now DT,we won by 2 and didnt have 50 put on us as you hoped...I didnt see a coniving man,I saw a proffessional coach preparing his team for an assault on the finals...

Ivan addressed this situation when he could, not when you and others wanted him to...kudos to him for staring adversity in the face and putting the club and team first....must hurt some on here to be proven wrong because they decided to join the media frenzy and not know or have the facts first..

Its unbelievable what some people will say on this forum without knowing the writer personally....I stand by my comments and applaud Ivan for coaching the team to beat the Raiders yesterday and not go there for our usual flogging from them..
I will also congratulate Ivan for keeping the team positive in a time when negativity was at a high this week...
If Ivan does take up another offer elsewhere after his contract is up with us,then that is the norm for coaches in the NRL these days whether it be more money, more challenges or personal reasons....he may also extend his stay with us....it is his choice...nobody can really know unless we are given factual evidence by Ivan himself, after all it is his career and his choice..

Just a little tip Tony...dont try to insult my intelligence with sarcastic replies..it makes you look bad ...Im much older than you think,my mum past away several years ago,I have a responsible job and I have never had sand kicked in my face because I dont live near the beach.....

Maybe Ivan didn't want to commit beyond 2020 in case Gould came to Wests TIgers as CEO replacement for Justin Pascoe?

The harsh reality for the Cleary’s is that they need to act now! Reason is, Ivan might not be as popular as what he is at this present moment, should the team he is coaching at the time be performing badly( basically why would a club want Ivan at that stage?) Where as for Nathan,,I don’t think he will get worse with time.., only better! But Ivan may find the opportunity closed once the time comes for him to link up with Nathan ..

You’ve got to strike while the iron is hot!!!!

I have negotiated for many people for many years, I have found this always to be the case not necessarily in rugby league but in business that I’ve dealt with.

He acted didn't he? He did a PC and said he is committed to coaching WT until then. Contract extensions and all that can be done in closed doors. So who's to say nothing is happening in the background? Do they need to YELL it out for everyone to know that a contract extension is on the table?

Just give a rest. He is staying until the end of his contract. I don't know what else you want him to say or do.

It’s quite simple for the Tigers. Extend and upgrade Cleary as sooon as the season finishes on big money. 2 years he’s under contract competitors can’t match.
If he refuses then we need to move on to a coaching director of football with a view to a new coach in 2 years.

I don't get this. If our board are determined that Ivan won't be leaving, do we really think Penrith will just sign a nuftie "interim" coach for 2 years. They'll sign the best coach they can, and if the new coach is any good, who says they'll want Ivan later?

(Not that it will stop things from blowing up again)

I must say an Image of Ivan at his press conference in Canberra made him look much older and tired
Looks like he didnt get much sleep over the last week
I think Ivan is a great coach and at this point would love for him to sign on for an extra year in our favour and 2 more in his favour
That reaffirms his commitment to our club so we can all rest
If he wishes to bring Nathen over or if he decides to leave the last 2 years in his favour comes into play

In the end if Ivan decides to leave after his two years are up then no hard feelings
He has done his 3 years
All we can ask is that he does his absolute best for us for the remainder of his contract

As far as signing any new players contracts go unless he adds the extra year I would place that responsibility in someone else's hand
That is the only problem I have with this whole debacle
It really comes down to trust now

Just of what i have seen in the past week he reminds of Chester ( Ciraldo ) and Spike ( Gould ).
