Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Ill spell it our really simply for you then...its a choice of how we use Brooks $$$ now that we have a real no 7 in Hastings.,and a real 6 in Douhie..keep spending $700+ on a serial underperforming Brooks who has played a not insignificant role in WTs being favorites for the spoon this year
...or buy a quality srtike centre or middle forward>maybe both..?
Madden is just a back up 6/7 atm..but with opportunity may prove better than that in time
Doueihi has a serious knee injury. This is his second serious knee injury. We have to see how he recovers from it. To me, when he returns it will be a year from the date of his return until we see him somewhere near his best. Hastings has played well during the trials but getting caught up on who plays 6 or 7? Isn't it left or right these days? While I hope Hastings goes well, it wouldn't surprise me if Madden challenges him during the year.

Most importantly, Brooks has a contract for two years. He is a loyal type and just might not want to leave. Besides, Sheens has already covered this matter so I cannot understand why you feel the need to revisit it.

Herman Tofaenos mates all congratulating him on insta for signing a new contract with the tigers. His agency just said it was an 'elite development' contract. Presume it's for 2023.

With him and Mana'mia on contract it lessens the need to get into a bidding war for Pele

Guys

Says Best of luck for 2022...

This aint recent

This needs a qualifier and that qualifier is right now. Madden has shown me 20 good minutes of footy. He has to produce a lot more than that but he is 21. Brooks is 27.

I've written Madden off as never going to make it but he could easily surpass Brooks.

I've watched 100's of Minutes of Madden is reserve grade.. Maybe thousands
And All of Brooks in the limited time he were there.

With the shortage of halves in the comp - And the fact we poached Madden from Newcastle... There's a reason he's behind Brooks.

If Madden was better than a backup 7, He'd have been mentioned in the merri-go round of basically all the back up halves between the clubs of late.

What's your argument?
Because one minute he's a better player - now he's a cheaper player...
and we can spend the money elsewhere.
That's obviously true in the fact he's cheaper... But it's also true for basically every starting player in the team. - We could save money on that position and improve another by spending more...
- We don't have superstars any more....
Weather the money can be better spent - Where - On Who - Will they come for money? Nothing more than a circular point / argument

My point was simple - Or so I thought...
There's no one (In the comp) that thinks Madden is a better player than Brooks....

You don't need to keep it simple.... I'm happy to slow up for you a bit if you need?

I understand your train of thought clontarfkid, the cap money and player money is all important in who the club recruit or release...during this year there are plenty of areas of the team that are open to re-valuation....
Douhi is to come back as is AJ,talau 3 players that have proven that they can play NRL albeit Douhi is the stand out...IF Brooks has a very good year with Hastings in the halves with him, then AD will have to be accommodated elsewhere in the team...
Madden has been pretty good and I like him as depth player atm and only see him as a halves player I dont know if he is capable in other areas...Peachey for mine would slot easy in the six or 7 and maybe the 13,he is proven talent and is yet to settle in...
I think we really have to watch how the team pans out between rnds 1-6,this season many have to step up and perform,we do have youth, experience and older players,a fair few will be under the microscope and their performances will prove their worth..
In my honest opinion,Brooks has the Ideal environment to show that he is worth keeping,I dont think Madge will keep blowing his horn for him like he has over the last couple of years, its up to the players now, poor performances or attitudes can no longer have a place in a team that hasnt played finals in 9/10 years..
I also think and its just my opinion that the club has set their sights on buying players that not only can handle the NRL arena but will strengthen the whole squad in general,I dont know how many times we have been excited to have players signed, yet have been greatly disappointed with poor performance or attitudes on either big money or overhyped potential....this year could be great, but next year the jigsaw puzzle will really take shape.....
Agree totally...weve got a whole season of ebbs and flows to work out how we optimise our cap..lets sit back and enjoy
...and from our own polls its obvious Brooks divides the supporter base.
Lets see what he can do with his umpteenth halves partner!

On triasl evidence,Maddens passing and kicking game may already have passed Brooks(?),but hes no-where near the defender..yet .But thats not his main job
I disagree. When we are defending that IS his main job. If we do OK in the possession stakes it will be his main job for 50% of the game. If, however, we fail to get our share of the ball. which is par for the course in recent years, it will be his main job for up to 60% of the game.

We shouldn't diminish the importance of defence, especially for a team like ours which is already defensively suspect.

How good is B Nikora ? Who rates him ? The big question to me is are we better next year compared to this in relation to our edge forwards.

Luciano & Tuilagi vs Papalli and Nikora. Are we better off ?

Luc is a weapon. He is the best edge attacking forward we've had in years. I can only think of Ellis as being at that level. Luc defensively is poor though. Ellis was awesome.

Papalli and Nikora would be better. Defensively as well as attacking.

Nikora would be on 550k if he comes here. Luc will be on 700k. 150k is a big difference these days.

I rate Luc but he's better at 60 min then playing the full 80. Tuilagi has alot of talent and upside.

If we get Nikora and add another damaging front row and forward pack will be one of the best next year.

couple of things
- madden looked ok against a nsw cup roosters team, he is not a first grade half back.
- the dogs signing ryan sutton from the raiders, luke thompson looking at moving on again

100%. People complain about Brooks last year because we didn't score enough points to win but that was because our defensive efforts sucked.

Last year we finished 3rd last in points conceded and averaged 29.75 pts a game
We also let in the 2nd most tries last season at 127, nearly 30-50 tries more than the top 8 teams.

To make the top 8 we needed 200pts less, 22pts a game, 2 trys a game difference.

On points scored we scored more points than a top 8 team and came close to 2 others.
We scored the same amount of tries as team that came 8th, 20 tries behind 7th+.
Considering the defensive gaps and lack of ball possession due to that it went against the grain % to the other NRL teams.

Defense was our biggest issue not scoring last year.

Brooks also missed more tackles than anyone else at the Tigers FYI.

Much better off

You might find that's because our back rowers have absolutely sucked for his entire career.....
And no one is scared to run at him.

There's been zero outstanding defensive halves since Joey retired...
Brooks is no worse than the others in the comp ATM.
He's just in a worse team than most and sees more traffic.
