Lack of leadership is why we don't have a good culture

I think the opposite to you I think the problem is we don't have enough Captains I think we should take the field with a Starting 17 Captain's the idea comes from working at very woke place a few years ago to make everybody feel good about them self everyone had a title and was a manager of something it's like a participation award but I want to take it to the next level

Start with 17 but finish with one abit like music chairs if you miss a take you lose your C if you Knock on you lose your C if you make any mistakes you lose your C
it could be more entertainment for the whole family

To be fair, he got teams with superstars like Lolohea, Thompson, MWZ, Naiqama, Godinet, Rochow and McIlwrick to beat teams like Easts, Melbourne, Parra and Manly and had us 5/6 in the first six rounds. He knew how to get the players playing for each other. Yeah he left us in a mess but objectively he got the best out of bog average players and got them to aim up for him and each other.

No one said he can‘t coach. That was obvious when he took the Warriors to a grand final a decade ago. It’s the way he used our cap then ran off the first chance he got.
 
Truth is it's just that we don't have alot of stars. Lots of average players getting average results, and when we hit the market we buy yesterday's stars which is more of an issue of teams having to spend all their cap. I mean with these types you'd want them on half pay.

The only way out is a coach and staff initiating new tactics or some kind of edge, but all our recent coaches aren't revolutionary, they are and were focused on the fundamentals.

Yeah I get that, I'm talking about Cleary in reference to the topic of culture, leadership and attitude.

We currently have a team that doesn't appear to want to play with or for each other. Cleary managed to get a rag-tag bunch to compete and beat the best teams in the league when he was here so it's pretty clear that attitude is missing among our current side when we have better players at our disposal.

Our defence was significantly better under Cleary, our inability to score points that season in 2018 (and a dodgy penalty against Brisbane,) was what cost us a finals berth. Not sure why Madge cannot get them into the same space that Cleary did. They are an objectively better side than what ran out in round 1 2018 that beat the eventual premiers that year.

So what is the problem. Is it that the players don't want to play for one another? Or the coach? Either way it shows that these players are happy to sign for good money, not put in and kick stones. Even at entry level pay they are paid better than virtually everyone in this country barring doctors, certain trades and lawyers. They have a shithouse attitude and that's a character defect.

Thats the way it was with Ivan....Madge was hampered with the cap brick around his neck and players that wanted to play for Ivan....Now that we had bad results it ended up on Madges plate that he needs to go,however we have some great youth in the squad and some very good juniors through the pathways coming up,it isnt fair to blame everything on Madge as one person,when so many were involved in the mess he had to clear...Im only saying that we need to look at this from more than one side...

This is a good point. Can't underestimate the importance of a core group of high performers. One half, hooker, fullback and a couple of forwards for example - when the quality of players in these key positions is high I think it would definitely lift the whole team.

Everyone is more accountable because you have this strong group of core players that you would let down if you played anywhere beneath 100%. You would be more exposed being delivered quality opportunities - it would be much more noticeable if you were the one screwing things up.

We don't yet have that core group who have clicked just yet, and if the whole team is playing badly, then I think it's a lot harder for anyone to lift and play to 100% of their ability.

I reckon he was a poor leader. He was difficult and hated losing but he was also a hog and there were plenty of times he took the wrong option.

A good leader to me executes well at critical times.

Farah had faults both on and off the field but he played with the passion that would have gone down well with the old Balmain/Magpies clubs at their best.We need more of that attitude imo
 
Leaders don't give up in the face of adversity. Farah had a dud shoulder in Origin and played on like nothing happened. Not mentioning what he did for the club. Sam Burgess did the same in the 2014 grand final.
 
Robbie absolute legend ! Local junior and great (c) arguably wouldn’t won a comp in 05 without him.

Not to mention that year he was runner up for Dally M he was the only player keeping the club above water and he would’ve won if the rest of the team performed better. What year was that again?
