Daine Laurie #237

yes it's a non story, but it speaks to the level of intent and attitude in this squad. similar to the Broncos out on the pokies the night before the 50 point thrashing against Parra in the first week of the finals.

what players do in their spare time is entirely up to them, but going to a pub to slap away your paycheck less than 24 hours before a game probably doesn't speak to excellent match preparation.

I think the pokies can be quite therapeutic for some. Especially for the mind. Takes away any thoughts of other things. As long as you’re in control of course.

My mum slaps pokies when she’s stressed at Ashfield rsl for an hour or two on the 50c machines.

My fave is where is the gold

“YEEHAW!”

But then again on the flip side if I was playing footy I would be in bed at 9pm

Up at 4 or 5am and getting ready.

I can see what your trying to say mate, however, what is the difference in going out to a pub, saying hi to some fans and having a slap for a couple of hours and not drinking...compared to sitting in a room on PS or Xbox alnight....

JUST BECAUSE WE LOST....people are making a big deal out of sfa.....

All tigers plays took nightquill and were in bed before 9pm
I think they took it just before the game and failed to read the warning about driving, operating heavy machinery or play rugby league due to the possibility of it causing drowsiness and loss of coordination.

There are no doubts that they were asleep out there on the field and not in complete control of their faculties.

Jimmy the Jet strikes me as a guy with an addictive personality. People with these personalities tend to perform poorly in life when they withdraw from their addictions. They often incorrectly link their addictions with their performance. e.g. Have you ever heard of people playing well in sports while being hungover? They needed the thrill from the previous night to wake their brain up.

Perhaps pokies is the rush he needs to get him going. Not a good idea in my opinion as it's one of the easiest things to get addicted to.
What about us being addicted to watching this crappy team.😆

Again , I think it’s a mindset.

What you do off the field translates to on field. How you prepare sets the tone for when you’re on the pitch. I’d just wanna be up at 4am/5am and put in before 99% of other players and know that I have that advantage

I’m sure there’s people out there earning a 10th of what those boys earn throwing just as much away on a Friday or Saturday night.
These players need an outlet from footy.
They played at 4pm for peats sake. And we’re already in Newcastle. Even if they went to bed at 4am they still would of had enough time to get ready for the game.
Prehaps they wanted a bit of a distraction.
I’m more pleased to hear that the boys were in a pub, hitting the pokies, but still not tempted to have a drink.
Worked for Jimmy. (Though I think the injury brought the best out of him) didn’t go so well for Daine.
Non event.

I don't care what players do in their own time, as long as it's legal and they don't hurt anyone.

However considering our club had a big game in Newie the next day, it's inexcusable.

I want to call them clowns, but that would be degrading clowns. At least clowns have a trick up their sleeve.
Some people are frightened by clowns, our mob wouldn't scare anyone.

Newy fan being disappointed is the funniest bit of it all..Imagine if said fan ran into Joey n Matty pre-game back in the day...
10pm Joey and Matty that's the start of the night pre drinks before going out and home on one leg at 7am but they backed it up Melbourne style party hard play hard

I think I found the problem all of the top teams in the NRL party hard play hard that's the problem send the whole team out at 10pm let them party then play the 2pm game

If I was the Newy fan I'd take the opportunity to shout them some drinks and get them blind drunk.

That's what a proper fan would do.

I think fans expectations of what these players should think and feel about the game is way off the reality. Many of them have spent their entire youth and twenties in the system and are expected to live and breath it. They are entitled to have some time to function in society like the rest of the population.
