Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The squad is just not good enough with or without Maguire. Bulldogs spent a fortune on players we would be over the moon to have signed and can guarantee their supporters are screaming for the coach to be sacked - just like St George Broncos Newcastle Raiders all with better squads than ours and fans with expectations that arent being met. No easy fix until we find some way to assemble a better squad.
The coach has had FOUR seasons to improve the young players, develop a style, and see the development players come through...he has done none of those things.

First step is to find a coach who do those things. Recruits will come to a team they can see a role in / see young players improving around them.

Bulldogs show u can't just buy a bunch of players and expect success. The top teams have built their success.

We have to back our juniors.

If you've has enough of first grade stop watching like I have, but don't loose faith in investing in juniors it will turn around eventually.
Where are the juniors though mate? Most of our "development players" are not even local kids. They have come simply as we offered more than their local teams. So far, that strategy has worked with Stefano...and failed on every other dev player. One from about 12 past few years.

Madden is a Newcastle junior who we offered a 3 year deal, full development time and an NRL spot.

Meanwhile, an actual junior in Lachlan Ilias was let go and told he was not up to it.

So, where is the plan for juniors you mention?

Sg ball, Harold matts ect.

Wests are starting to make a name for themselves in SG ball and other junior Leagues after the Tigers finally placing some funds into the community.

Few names in flegg although they got pumped by sharks today but few in there I'd be keeping an eye on. It's all junior level stuff. But that's the point you build chemistry there and bring it into grade and If u don't u have the nrl sides like dogs and Tigers

If only it was as just as simple as flicking the coach. Man for man our top 30 is the weakest in the competition and compared to some squads significantly. Our results reflect that and Who ever the next guy is, unless the club can recruit some talent into the FG squad any young players coming through will have no opportunity to transition to FG without getting slaughtered.
Newcastle Bulldogs St George Broncos all with coaches with a rep in their second year struggling for consistency because their squads lack the quality needed to match the better teams - and they all have more to select from than we do. The talent in the Broncos squad is mind blowing compared to ours.
The coach will be the fall guy, but the real problem remains and is a far bigger problem to resolve.

Speed, speed and more speed is what we need. We would have to have the slowest backline in the NRL. The footwork of players in the other teams we have played so far make our guys look like they are wearing concrete boots.
You are spot on, we have no pace what so ever, anyone we want to sign will want overs & you cant blame them, just wish the Club would tell us they have signed a descent player.

Mate...not just in the backs. We lack speed across the park. The new game is based upon athletes and everyone who touches the ball for us looks like a snail. With no disrespect, watching a backorder like Seyfarth try to punch a line is cringeworthy. Having a time where you have Twal/Tamou/Seyfarth all on at once is practically conceding that we are going to let the opposition dominate and get inside our 20m every time they touch it.

Further to the speed debate, it really makes me wonder what on earth Maguire is doing? Speed is a clear issue and we sign Maumalo (slowest winger in the comp), Jackson Hastings (slowest half in the comp practically) and Starford Toa (very slow...couldn't keep up with Gildart the other week which cost us a try). None of them fix the problem in any capacity, but add to it.

Speed is king.

We are going to be in a world of pain for the rest of this season and next , if we dont sign some good solid players over the next month we won’t get any , my reasons
1) we are running last , no one wants to go to last placed team
2) most of our squad is week so new player has all the pressure on him
3) our second grade team are also week , no real guns coming up as we would use them now
4) players who are or may be leaving , Kel , Lucy , Garner , Tamou , Brooks ? , Roberts , Simpkin , Lids , Madden , that’s approx 9 and we can’t sign any , got 2 coming that leaves 7 more , good luck I say

We need an upgrade in just about every position - but who we need is mostly not available to us.Two real good signings for next year but losing two of our best almost negates it. How we let that slip is mind boggling.

Players who I would be calling today
Simms x 2 years. Tough go forward
lodge x 2 years , yes I know BUT. We need his type player
Bird x 3 years. Solid player back row / Centre
Duffy x 2 years Fullback / Centre
Aitken / Centre
add Appi and Papai
we can mix the rest around these type guys

Just watched the Joffa interview after the game , that guy is stressed out , but I agree with his last comments , it’s just not good enough , need to be better from Top to bottom. , first player I have heard from tigers pull management and staff into the same as players for criticism good on him. , ps don’t think he will be with us next year. Add another to my list above

The fact our administration tries to separate itself from football performance says it all, you’re employed by an NRL team you imbeciles. Do us all a favour and walk.

Tony where is your hit list of players. , or are you a bring the junior through guy. , there is almost nothing left out there to sign and our juniors are way off

You can clearly see it on the field as well. He is busting his guts and often just looks at dispare when others are making stupid mistakes or players aren't in position. Why would he even think about taking up the mutual option next year. Can see him leaving next year as well at this rate.

We are a very badly coached team.

Players not getting to dummy half straight after HT, not chasing short kicks and letting balls roll into touch isn’t coaching. That’s effort areas and the players we have recruited just being awful.
