Jackson Hastings #251

Needs to be a priority signing and done ASAP.

He is on very ordinary money for a 7 and is free to negotiate Nov 1.

We need to bump him up immediately...use the cap space we have to add to his 2022 pay and extend him 23/4/5 on a good deal.

We have waited since Prince for a 7 and here he is. This has to be the club's number one priority.

Love how everyone’s priorities were different yesterday…

We finally have a number 7 who can organise the show. And we finally have Brooks doing what he does best which is run and set up players without the pressure of organising a team around. With them two working so well together I still don’t understand why Madge chops it up and moved brooks to hooker. The problem with madge and whether it’s the interchange or this, he has a preconceived idea of what he is going to do and doesn’t adapt based on what’s happening in the game. How good does it feel to win two games when we thought we might not win a game all year lol.

I think it’s more a case of finally having a 6 and 7 in the one team.
I know Doueihi has been spoken about at length for his individual efforts last year at 5/8 but you can see amount of extra effort Brooks had to do to create last year. For a few years now we have played with an inexperienced 9 and having Hastings in around the ruck is helping obviously in this space.
Comparatively to last year and the couple of games this year. Brooks would be in a similar position on the field ready to get a play going and the dummy half is looking left and right wondering who to pass to. Very hard to be directing the play whilst also getting ready to receive and set up the next one.
The biggest factor that has surprised me is that Brooks is able to now take better options on a shift and hit the right man rather than hitting short when long was a better play and visa versa.
That was my biggest fear about going into 5/8 that he was too safe and robotic for the role but he is nailing his opportunities.

Have you considered that with no experience of playing hooker and only about 10 first grade games that Madden wouldn’t be the better option there?

We resurrected his NRL career I reckon he would remain loyal that's the impression I get from him
Can only hope.

This guy will make us competitive for years

I remember watching him play Juniors from about 12 years up to Under 18s...Every single team he played for won the grand final that year. And he switched from Berkeley to Albion Park to Wests. Success followed him even from a young age

He was also nailing kicks as young as under 13s from the sideline like last night. He's always had it

Many of us think we should extend Hastings, but it is very difficult to know what he is worth. He has been a huge factor in turning the team around, but he has only played 4 games and been suspended for 2.
Locking a player down on a long term bargain contract does not usually work out if their value goes up. I don't know what the answer is, but it is a tough question.

Seen enough the last two games to give him a payrise for the rest of his contract and extend him a couple of years on top. I'd like to think a sensible offer he would take to reciprocate us taking a chance on him. He is exactly the player we have needed since Rob Lui left.

Still a lot of this year to go, however next year with Jacko with Api at hooker will bring an even better combination and service with their game management. Watched Brooks last night just freely roaming out the back on both sides of the ruck which is creating opportunities to score.

Papali’i was a weapon for the slimy eels today so we just need a few more to assist and we’re in for a strong few years.

I forgot brooks has heaps of experience at hooker, my bad.
Your taking me out of context. I’m saying out of the two. Brooks has limited experience at hooker but a heap more experience in general in the NRL. I agree that it stunts our attack with Brooks going into 9. But that’s where we are at with injuries at the moment.

We agree it stunts our attack, so why change two positions when all you have to do is change one and put madden at hooker.
