Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Madden publicly mentioned he wants to be the long term 7. Now he is not only second to Brooks at 7 he is third to Hastings. Personally I think we are seeing the impact of having an experienced 7 on the field and we also saw the burden of Madden being first reciever in the 3 previous games. I’d keep him on ice as our back up 6. He currently plays that role when Brooks goes into hooker and in the background he can learn the subtleties of the two positions off Hastings and prepare him long term as a 7.
In the meantime when he is fit I would play Doueihi as our back up halfback instead of Madden (pending fitness) as I think he could do a similar job in directing the team in position. Hopefully our first choice stay fit overwise. And in that case Doueihi plays centre in our strongest side.

Madden to me looks a little like Luke Keary. He isn't at that level yet though. I'd keep him but not pay top dollar. I think he could develop into a decent first grader over the next couple of years. I'm not sure he is ready to be starting 7 at NRL level just yet.

We will need to upgrade Hastings and we need to figure out where Doueihi and Brooks slot in.

Some tough decisions need to be made.
Brooks and Hastings are a fantastic pair. You keep them both. Brooks goes on about how he wants to be at the club. Douehi goes to the centres and can fill in the halves when required. I think Starford should be the other centre, he's shown he belongs in the backline and Ken M and Nofa are the wingers. Surely the club has money atm to retain who it likes.

Re Madden - if the club view Hastings the long term 7 then extend Hastings who has many years infront of him.

If Madden wants to play at 7 or 6 it won't happen here unless injuries hit. He won't be infront of Brooks or AD either unless 1 of them moves on/play in another position.

I haven't seen a single player make an impact on a side like Hastings has, its' early but geez he is captain all over him.

Madden needs footy, unfortunately can't see it here.

How about....

- extend madden
- trade him to another club for a player we need
- profit / success 🙌

What's people's opinion on madden now after 2 wins .when douehi comes back do u think he will ask for a release now our halves have clicked a bit .brooks service at dummy half looked good .but the 3 halves seem to b having turns there late on game
I think he is pretty good. Still finding his feet. Has had his moments here and there. Not ready to lead a first grade side, but give him a couple of years and he will be.

He should be kept if possible. Another club might come along at some point with an offer too good for him to refuse. For now, his best opportunity is to wait for an injury then kill it. We need a reserve half on our roster anyway.

Maybe we should have a shot at Griffin Neame. Is under contract till end of 2023 but looks a unit. Is also a Junior Kiwi not sure if Maguire has a connection. Cowboys cant keep them all and add Luc.

Does anyone have an update on what Jordan Hill is up to? I haven't seen him playing anywhere - not sure if he is injured
Hill returned to the field yesterday for Mackay cutters colts after 10 months recovering from ACL, all part of his return to sport plan with his surgeon.
I watched the game online, he played a full game, made a few breaks and saved some tries, looked good, still fast and sitting at 96kg.
Scored a try and very strong defensively. His parents will be around Putney this week I’ll ask them how he’s going.

With the backrow the Cows have they really do not need Luciano, especially with the salary he is on…

Wonder if Sheensy can pick up the phone to Payten and convince him to let that one go?

Perhaps we can give them Liddle or Simpkin? Whoever isn’t in our plans…

I wouldn't be giving Simpkin up if we are looking at building something that lasts based off the kids coming through.

Or at least Fix our backline for once.
James Roberts put in at the start of the year, Gildart seems to be the wrong fix for our backline (fast and snappy, less so a gritty defender).

Having Doueihi in the back would be massive as he clearly gives it his all. Were Winning*, yet were doing it by 1 point. Now that our halves have clicked if we can improve our defense and stop 2 more tries a game we should be able to make the 8!

*damn it where are 90's flashing internet banners when you need them

Yea but we won't pay him the supposed 750k he is going to get from them - i can't see the cows subsidising a player to stay at his current club without ever playing a game for them. Having said that i'm sure they must be regretting jumping in early.

Im still not willing to loose Madden for Brooks.

This is in light of past performance and salary.

If reports are true - Out halves pairing is costing us 1.5mil a year...
Every club would be spending that or close to that on their halves....
That's not a bad spend at all...
It's imbalanced, But the total amount is OK.

What I would be doing, Is looking to extend them both at a more balanced level
even for a year... While they're playing well, Enjoying their footy - Strike now!!
They're 4 games in!!

They're both up for negotiation come end of the year - And we could well lose them both (Despite how much screaming here that one needs to go) Madden us already up for negotiation - But I don't hear anything around on him bar his manager shopped him to Sticky...
And got knocked back.

Anyone who thinks Brooks and Hastings won't be entertaining offers come the end of the year has rocks in their head. Madden and Or Doueihi isn't any type of answer in the halves and to lose the combo we have atm would be dumb.

Interestingly, I was listening to Matty Johns or Gus Gould (Can't remember which one) and they said - I can tell you what Jackson Hastings did get in the UK that he never got in Australia - Was Love.... I wondered if that may be the problem with Brooks - He's been caned his whole career...
He gets Jacko in, Someone who has his back, Who pumps up his tyres... Shows him some love and all of a sudden he's a different player...

I can't help but think, Hastings plays all games this year and we're 4 & 2...
And the media hasn't been flogging us and the coach to death all year and we've got nothing to talk about here and maybe we get another signing over the line?
Time will tell, Long way to go this year...

But extend Brooks and Hastings now....

I still think the long term position for Doueihi is 6. However, if the current halves keep performing there is no need to break that up this year especially with Doueihi likely to come back slowly.

Depending on injuries Doueihi could fill in at fullback or the halves or even 13.
