Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Klemmer would be massive and huge in creating a culture shift in which I assume Benji and Sheens are trying to implement.... say what you want about Klemmer but he gives it everything every game and always backs his team mates on the field can never question his effort. Would be a good person out there leading the way for our young pack.

Klemmer for Tamou would be a huge upgrade and something I hope we're looking at seriously in the 2-3 year gap before our juniors start growing.

Klemmer and Stef as our pairing next year would be excellent

Api Korisau, Isaiah Papali'i, David Klemmer, Hayze Perham (as our back-up backline utility - centre/fullback/5-8) would be good recruiting.

Possibly Charlie Staines but only if Nofa moves to Melbourne fulltime or Mamaulo retires early due to his knee (this is only guessing as he does seem to struggle with it at times).

we definitely need another front rower, potentially a back rower depending on the Kelma situation and a backup fullback. I'm not sold on Perham. Staines for mine would be the better option and would bring out the best in Daine breathing down his neck. gotta remember Staines hasn't had much time at fullback in the top grade, if you gave him a full preseason training at the back I think he'd light it up.

Klemmer would be sensational, but Royce Hunt would be another I'd be looking at. as for back rowers, the market's pretty dry but someone like Matt Doorey, Jackson Topine or Jack Murchie would be a good shout.

If Kelma does go to Manly and our backrow stocks are reduced to Papali'i, Blore, Talau, Seyfarth & Tumeth/Kautoga/O'Kane, a Sheens/McDonnell type signing would be this guy who tore us a new one in NSW Cup on Saturday.

* Junior Kiwi centre in 2017 in the team featuring Papali'i, Talakai, Nikora, Luai, Harris-Tevita.
* Experienced at 25
* Big bodied hole-running backrower with an offload
* Fast as he caught up to Gildart when Oliver streeted away on Saturday
* Must have a good tank given his minutes in NSW Cup this season
* Has good attack & defence stats in NSW Cup this season - https://www.nswrl.com.au/players/nsw-cup/mounties/dane-aukafolau/

Is this guy a late bloomer? Anyone else got info on him?

Yeah I would think Staines would only be recruited for Wing and told he is 1st back-up to Laurie as fullback. Perham does has his deficiencies but is an attacking weapon and could provide an experienced low-cost backup to Douehi, our Centres, Wingers & even fullback.

Agree with your forward targets but I think Gus is keen to keep Topine so more than likely Doorey (who McDonnell apparently likes) from Dogs and Murchie is one we should definitely look at.

He looked good against us....but to be fair, we must be the worst defensive team in NSW Cup. Would want to see a lot more before we went after him. Probably a reason he hasn't played NRL yet.

My gut feel says that we will probably get Staines. We need that fullback cover option if Daine goes down (not sold on To'a in that position). Would like to see Hunt and Topine or Doorey signed up.

Pretty sure as recently as a couple of weeks ago the vast majority on here wanted Kelma punted, quoting his stats as terrible and saying Manly got shafted cos he’s not a First Grader
Yeah it annoys me when one player has a good game and everyone is doting on him. Look at the whole season and judge. He's been pretty ordinary all year.

A positive for us over the last 5 rounds is Sheens/Benji/Robbie will get a good look at Laurie as our #1 fullback, T'oa & Kepaoa in the centres, Naden on the wing, Madden as our halfback, Tualagi, Musgrove & Seyfarth in both the middle & edge, basically all of our players who have a ? on their future as top 17 players.

They will also see whether fringe players like Dias & Freebairn may be worthy of another T&T contract.

And give a taste to the likes of Matamua, Tumeth, Boyling, Reilly possibly.

I am a dumb arse so please be gentle CG.
Does that mean if he accepts he will be earning 766k from now till the end of the 2025 season?
If that's the case it's not a huge contract is it?
I think that offering a contract at this price saves face and not insulting considering his average form.
He would get better offers elsewhere and most likely move on, everyone is a winner.
Or am I missing something? 🤔
It is still a big contract $2.3 mill for 3 years as we signed Isaiah Papalii on
$1.9 mill for 3 years and no one would argue that he is in red hot form and you can't say that about Brooks with contract $400k more over 3 years

To me we have a good fullback and what I think is 5 good wingers in Nofo,Kenny, AJ and Toa and possibly Junior T .We are using 2 of those 5 as centers and think they are somewhat "makeshift" centers
Would like one or two top class centers recruited
In the halves we've got 4 Hastings ,Douehi,Brooks and Madden and we can discount Hastings for next 6 months
Hookers we have plenty for 2023 with Api and Nu Brown and Peachy
Front row and Edge forwards we are a bit light as we need 8 top class ones
That is 5 run ons and 3 bench . For 2023 using top class or potentially top class as criteria we've got Papalii, Musgrove, Pole ,Joffa, and a few "maybe" s
Like Matamua ,Dias ,Fairbarn .I think we need at least 2 top class recruits in this area
So in summary would like us to recruit 3-4 more top class that is 1-2 centers and two forwards
Please no more players who are near the end of their careers and can't get contract extension where they are WE ARE NOT A RETIREMENT HOME
Please get cracking Tim and please don't lose Madden

Yeah, I hated when he said we’ll be a force in 2025.

Do I follow another team or stop watching footy between now and then?

Because I can see that we’ll get on a 2-3 winning streak at the start of the year then lose 10 again.. but then come back half way and beat a few, media has a joke about us, we lose the rest of the year.

But what happens this time is that no coach or board is sacked, but we can call it development.

Develop losing ways to stay losing.

WESTS TIGERS ARE ALWAYS IN A GAME
I don't think the current team is developing losing ways. Nofa and Brooks, yes.

@THE_POM mentioned a couple of months ago that Scolari was being considered for a Development contract.

I hope it's true because he's got talent to burn & can hit like a sledgehammer in defence which a lot of wingers can't do.
My understanding from his JF contacts is that he will be ready for pre-season and has been working very hard on his fitness whilst he recovers.

He will be a work in progress I suspect given the lack of football he has played since 2019 so he is going to be either an unknown or require some time whilst he gets the experience in 2023. Naturally the club will want to test his recovery over November - February so I doubt he has been signed for next year yet unless the POM knows otherwise.

Came across these search bits on YouTube - only the first 6 rounds from last year but he looked solid if not spectacular. Looks to give 100% which is usually a good start.

Trying to access more info about Rua's progress. He looks a real prospect after his JF year last year. Hopefully he will be right for pre-season.

From last year's side, Kade Hill going very well (again in JF). Mavoni went to the Dogs but hurt himself in a bike accident and haven't spotted him since. Stevanovic playing NSW Cup for Manly and sadly, things haven't worked out well for Dillon with the club. Aiden Perry playing several games for the Magpies. We lost the other good young winger, Hill (ACL) to Qld. Ogden and Jankovic learning their trade with Magpies this year - certainly they should develop.

They're the main ones from last year I believe? As much as I could find out.
