LIVE GAME 2023 Trial 1: Wests Tigers v Warriors

Live Game Discussion
I can’t understand why so many posters are rolling out excuses for our poor performance?
Have the player’s mothers infiltrated the forum? I mean that’s ok if they have, I don’t have a problem with that and I respect the unconditional love. But I have a strong sense that we haven’t moved our thinking to changes.
I realise we were going back to 2005 to right the wrongs etc etc. and all the bs which goes along with “but it’s only a trial and this is how WT plays in a trial”.
The only thing we achieved by taking the kids to NZ and pumping their tyres is that the top 17 are safe. I wonder if the coaches are happy with their progress?

Idk

The argument that we beat Manly once in trial by 40 then they whipped us in comp is a compelling one.

The scores don’t mean much one way or the other, but what does matter is the on field behaviour of the group.
I wonder if Sheens has given Benji his head too much too soon.
I hope I’m wrong because I really want this to work, but those players won’t respond to Benji’s life story each week.
I’m still not seeing a team performance, regardless of the score line or the perceived importance of the game?

All it means is their second group of team was way better then ours or they named a better team.

Have a look at match up.

Metcalf v the rugby dude and benji lookalike
Wings were a miss match
Prob too many across the park

If we drop 30 first half next week then get your undies in a knot then.

Think you are going off a bit early.

Hopefully our first grade team do better. This week showed depth may be an issue.

Our outside backs are very weak on paper.

Just have to hope a few improve off the back of a better forward pack.

From the possible Round 1 outside back starters that played on Thursday, Talau was dreadful and Kepaoa was very solid on both sides of the ball.
Nice little flick pass from Naden for a try in the indigenous match. He can keep that up...

What was interesting is that AJ started at left centre, which I expect is where Naden will play first grade, and Talau started at right centre (where Talau would presumably start if in first grade). However, when AJ came on for his second stint he played right centre (Feledy was playing left). I wonder if Talau’s ordinary performance (granted it was his first hit out for a long time) was a catalyst to get AJ onto the right side for a potential round 1 start.

Their better team didn’t allow us to execute what we’ve been training to do over the last 3 months.🤔
😂 we’ll be waiting a long time for our guys to produce a performance that is relative to our club’s purposeful existence in that case because we’re carrying the spoon this year.

Idk if just me (being superstitious perhaps) but countless of unkown quantities or up and comers who absolutely shines and become a talk of the town in preseason games turns out to be flops. Even Hayne plane with 49ers :)

So glad our young guns Matamua, Feledy Bula and a few more showed some brilliance & overall solid outing without beimg preseason stars

I am not overly upset at the result due to the largely juniors we had playing what I am concerned is the number of the other sides playing this weekend with similar inexperienced rosters putting in the effort to make contests of the trials albeit it means nothing. So is it an attitude thing or was it due to the fact we were first team on show, and the others now not wanting to cop criticism

Winners take any game they are involved in seriously…be it nines, trials or “meaningless” dead rubbers at the end of the season.
We have very rarely had this mentality.
Sending that side to a trial overseas was a loser move by the club and has achieved nothing.

Should KOE Cup be an off season competition where development and train and trial players play in?
Trials would be for the NRL top 30 that's established after the preseason comp finishes.

Round 1 lineup predicted excluding Bateman (once he arrives Matamua probably drops out).

Laurie
Staines
Kepaoa
Naden
Maumalo
Douhei
Brooks
Stefano
Api
Klemmer
Ice
Blore
Joffa

Pole
Twal
Matamua
Smith
