Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Why are we talking about Staines at fullback, Laurie is absolutely a better all round fullback than Staines, he will get first shot. People just banking on players to fail, Laurie will be fine
Laurie has more x factor and a better passing game but Staines from what I've seen is better under the high ball(laurie lets it bounce too much,), better at supporting around the ruck(laurie can get lazy) and has better defensive positioning

Wayne Bennett is after another Bronco. According to Courier Mail, Tom Flegler has been offered a monster contract from the Dolphins, worth more than 800k a season. Manly have been chasing him for months, offering him around 625k a year to head to Sydney. Also being reported JWH will either retire or head to the super league next year, with a similar story regarding Daniel Tupou & with the future of Angus Crichton up in the air, questions are being asked

I disagree...
He played 1 in the 2018 Flegg Grandfinal (5 Seasons ago)
with Dean Blore and Brendan Hands in the halves...

The year before that (2017 In SG Ball) he was the Fullback

The year before that, He was playing Bush Footy at home.
(All online if you care to look it up)
He played the odd game at 6 with Staines at 1...
He's been a FB predominantly for years...

I'm not saying he "Can't" Play 6,
But anyone who claims he can - Or has a "memory" of him doing it.....
Is basically making sh*it up.

Seriously....
Think Panthers worked out they had a talent, but already had a quality no 6..in their ranks....2 of em..so where where else can we play him?
No one is pretending to have a "memory" of opposition juniors from half a decade or more ago...it's simply them being pragmatic
As we need to do also
Maybe you too?

Laurie has proven he’s more than capable of being a first choice nrl fullback, Staines hasn’t done so yet, he may get a chance through injury but Sheens and Benji aren’t stupid, Laurie is still ahead of Staines, especially with the way we’ve structured our attack. It’ll suit Daine more with the team throwing it around and with our pack not getting dominated every game he wi have a bit of space to work with if they can put kick pressure on the half kicking, unlike last year where they would stand there and say here’s 15m of space to put up as big of a bomb you want. “Good luck Daine”

I'd only spit out a cappuccino if it was the Bondi style. Seafood, wine? Never 😉

Further to the point Hal is that player welfare around head knocks and concussion is such a huge concern these days and the Roosters appear to have the most issues with this. Yet no real concern seems to be raised.
Totally agree, seem to have so many more compared to others. Interesting to see some further analysis on this situation.
You’ve raised an interesting point.

I honestly think he was not one of junior chins mates and was shown the door at Penrith you have to be one of the cool kids

This is his ENTIRE history at FULLBACK for Penrith!

In no way was he even an established FB at NSW Cup level!

He is a lightweight with pace but no physicality in the collision!

Gee whiz didn't the Tigers win the most coveted prize in the 2022 NRL the WOODEN SPOON? Daine Laurie was on most occasions missing in defence and rag-dolled on others in attack. Staines for me offers size and speed at fullback. Daine Laurie should be an integral part of the Magpies NSW Cup side.in.2023
No
Laurie was way better than Staines at FB against Canberra

9I am glad the Moses saga is over and I am not disappointed by the outcome. The idea of bringing back a player that tanked on us to get his own way, just didn’t sit well with me. I didn’t think we were seriously a chance of signing him, we were just driving up his Parra price. Would he have made a difference to our team, probably, would he have taken a giant chunk of our cap for years, definitely, are there plenty of fish in the sea, absolutely.
Time to turn our attention to this season & the cubs we have and maybe look at Welsby etc.

This is another Adam Douehi situation where Chinese whispers and social media echo chambers conflate a players preferred position with their best - or most experienced position.

How many wingers and centres are putting up their hands for fullback money because they played there in u/16s??

The TRUTH is deflating for those who pinned their hopes on him as our fullback!

He was not even first choice in NSW Cup for Penrith.... he is a winger and not a big one!

Plenty of stories going around about the real reason… and it’s not bipolar.
If it's true they're actually using bipolar as an excuse then I agree it's a pretty despicable tactic - especially having quotes from his dad -

Technically, it's possible from head trauma, but it would have to be type 1 and as such you'd think he'd have difficulty ever being cleared to play rugby league again and a whole can of worms is opened in the CTE sphere.

So to the comment I replied to, if this is the case, I apologise.

Edit: original post appears to be deleted.

I never played fullback - but I would like to see Garry Jack who was smaller than Charile or Daine show everyone how it is done!

Technique is the key!
I might be wrong but I don’t recall to many players of that size and power playing in the backline in that generation, there was some biggish outside backs but nothing like the power todays footballers have. Anyone of that size would have been in the second row or lock. There was no interchange.

I realize that to someone who thinks history is anything with a dry coat of paint, entertainment is a triple-header of Prisoner Cell Block H/BMX Bandits/Howling III: The Marsupials and fine-dining being able to eat your fairy bread with a knife and fork this might come as a surprise to you but - my team is worth more than the NRL, ARU and AFL combined. Now run along Skippy or you'll miss that appointment with the flying doctor ... 🤣🤣🤣
now your having a dig at us Aussies from your stinky scouser town. It was your lot that loved our crapy shows like neighbours. The sport that perfected diving without a pool, how’s Liverpool going this season spends over 800millian pounds on players and is in 8th spot. Have a bath and go drink your warm beer, have a bowl of the horrible soup your mob are named after before you soil yourself while punching on with a lamp post. (All in jest)

Been a while since I referenced a dictionary for anything…
But I don’t think claiming a player is a 6 (or 7) when he’s literally played next to no football in either position is pragmatic…

It’s more so an invented narrative.
that funnily enough has only seemed to pop up since sheens mentioned he was “training there”
All of a sudden he’s Laurie Daley…

Laurie isn’t a 6 (or 7) that’s the reason why he played at 1 behind no names at 6/7 through his Juniors - and still there up until now.

Again, I’m not saying he couldn’t - but he hasn’t and isn’t…
he’s a million miles off ousting anyone in those current positions in the team - despite what you think of them.
Claiming he is - was or has is nothing more just rubbish
All the all star level coaches (PM13, indigenous all stars) play him on the wing...

Jacob Preston is the guy to watch for the Dogs. 2nd Rower. Reportedly set to make his debut in rd 1 against Manly. Ciraldo stated that Preston was the player that impressed him the most during pre season.

Meanwhile in Melbourne, Dean Iremia has suffered a torn acl and will miss the entire season. Kamikamica will also miss around 6 weeks with a foot tendon injury. This adds to their growing injury ward.

Easts are flogging their forwards.

Lets sign our younger guns and lock them down if reasonable contracts are accepted. Easts are going to be raiding soon.
