Advice from dads

My young fella is 6 turning 7. Really got into footy last year and watches every game this year. Been to a few games but can’t get to many as from the country. He is really starting to get sick of following a losing team. I’ve told him the importance of sticking solid but am fighting a losing battle. How are the other dads out there keeping the kids interested? I’m worried if we keep it up we will lose a generation of fans

Just let the kid pick his own team is my advice

First mistake is forcing him to give two craps about your team. He should pick his own team.

My son is 12 and, without any persuasion, got into it about 18 months ago. He now watches every game.

He has seen 4 wins...and never been at a game we have won.

He went today and said he was worried all week we would lose by 50, so he was happy he saw a good game and we were close.

He also said Moses was a (word I can't use here) for doing the 'hush' sign to Tiger's fans in the area he was...

The word rhymes with grunt.

I told him he can change teams if he wants, but he said "too late". Tigers are his team. At least he will be able to appreciate the good times more 'if' we ever improve.

Also - Tigers have been pretty much garbage for 55 years since 1969. With the exception of some years in the 80's, 2005 and 2010/11. Hasn't effected Tigers from having fans over generations. I'm more concerned with asking about the mental health condition of Tigers fans that draws them to and keeps them in such a known toxic relationship.

pay em $10 every week to cheer for tigers. but they can't touch it till we win

Yeah we went today and on the way out he was saying it’s good dad - we got so close. Going for the tigers might make him pretty resilient at least. I felt like I was getting a counselling session from my son as he was saying it could of been worse - life lessons

Buy him heaps of tigers gear and brainwash him. Watch 2005 and Benji highlights.
Mention that Wests/Balmain have more premierships than most clubs and a rich long history, unlike Storm, Panthers, Broncos etc.
Wanna support Dragons or Bulldogs? Don’t think so. More likely it would be a winning team like Roosters or Panthers.
But just look at those bandwagon Eels supporters from the early 80s - sure they had a small purple patch, but if you change lanes then you might get caught. And then whatcha going to do?

Supporting this team now shows character, genuine fandom and individuality.
Anyway, the whole fun is the journey and it makes winning so much sweeter.
(Whenever that’ll be!😆)

Yes, it’s sadistic asking him to follow us right now, but that’s your job. 😊

We did a good google the other day - Parra with the most wooden spoons of any current club. Wests Tigers only on one - bought me at least a few more weeks (didn’t do the add up of Wests and Balmain)

Sorry to say I think thats a pretty shit attitude ...what youre basically saying is you had no say in something and you dont respect people that DO have a say in the same thing

ok
So choosing a new team every year is ok is it? I still put shit on mates that have changed teams .
