Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

All for taking a punt on players but Schuster is not that player.

We need hard workers, not players who take short cuts
True but we really need a ball player somewhere, if he comes maybe hypnosis the answer, works for breaking the smoking habit, maybe it could work for diet ?

I was more surprised by the fact that Manly have 12000 members on a forum how many do we have ?
Ah that's not what it says, it says "a Manly fan page, which has 12,100 members."

Could be a FB page. There are a couple of WT FB pages with 10K followers; the official page has 250K+.

I completely understand the reservations around Schuster. My concern is, who else is there. A Brooks/AD/Wakeham combo ain't gonna cut it. Let's be real, we aren't going to sign any top line halves until we compete
If we can get Schuster on a 2 year deal with Manly chipping in some $ and a club option for a 3rd if he performs then give it a crack.

I was told a month ago and posted on here about Schuster being on our radar and there's a mutual interest in both parties - I think he has the potential to be the best 13 in the league at 21, if he's available with our lack of X factor in attack it's a no brainer imo.... with his ability to create space for our halves and fullback it'll ease some of that inside 20 attacking flair we've seemed to be lacking and the biggest advocate for this would be Brooks with the space he'd have to run those lines we've been telling him to run, unfortunately they don't present themselves with Wakeham and Pole being our link man however with Schuster and Bula there too that changes.

Take this with a grain of salt but I was told from the same person that told me about Schuster that Zac Lomax is being discussed heavily internally and apparently word around town is he wants us and has wanted out for the last 12 months - with him being dropped and his form slumping to start the 2023 season it seems like it's boiling over. Apparently he didn't take the news of being dropped too well and wasn't offered an explanation on why he has been dropped either and is fuming.

For context: Lomax was actually super close signing with us 3 years ago with Madge, then Dragons countered with a monster 5 year deal at like 500-600k a year and he took it. (beat our offer by quite a bit). Then the following season Hook was announced as coach, since then it's been a downhill ride.

Lomax was a massive Wests Tigers fan and idolised his favourite player Benji Marshall - he was close to sign with us before but apparently we now have more of an advantage as Lomax has openly spoken about to people close to him he'd love to play under Benji which is maybe what stemmed this whole thing.

Our need of a goal kicker and strike centre at Lomax's age of 23 will be incredibly beneficial for us - barring this year he's a capable 78-80% conversation rate. To'a and Naden have been good but Lomax laps them x100 in terms of skillset.

Both Lomax 23 and Schuster 21 would be astute signings to help build this club - go get a controlling 7 after these two and we imo have a premiership contending squad.

Mail is just mail. But good post mate. Both of those in a heartbeat, with a conservative, methodical halfback immediately has us in the picture. That would be quite the transformation.

Was this the source you got the teddy news from mate?

Schuster is currently an unfit version of the textbook, modern day, ball playing 13. He also, clearly, has the skillset to play second row or 5/8th and so is versatile.

Fitness and defence you can make strides in relatively quickly, provided attitude is right. Attacking prowess is a different proposition; far more innate, when a player is referred to as 'naturally gifted', more often than not, people are referring to their attacking ability.

We struggle in attack. He is as naturally a gifted attacking footballer as we have seen in the last 10 years.

He has deficiencies, but they are of the type that are improvable.

To me, he's a risk. A decent risk. But a risk worth taking, provided, we have in place a competent, game-managing halfback.

Still a 13 who can play 6 for mine.

Correct...

Schuster remains most likely however $ may be an issue as he's on a reported 800k. From what I heard Benji wants him at 6 and the attraction is playing under Benji and being allowed and encouraged to play his style, where at Manly he's purely there to create space for Turbo/DCE as second receiver. Latu Fainu being there is another reason why Manly are more prompted to get rid of Schuster as well. Personally think overtime with the way the game is changing he'll slowly transition to 13 as he gets older.

Lomax is a little less likely as all this can change with Hook being sacked and a new coach coming in - as it stands currently let's just say Lomax is exploring his options and the Tigers have known this for sometime as well. Won't be an easy fight as the Roosters apparently are sniffing as well, but ironically Lomax is attracted at the idea of being a Tiger but still a long way to go.

Only time will tell - seems like both players were Wests Tigers fans and are attracted at the idea of playing under Benji.... pretty positive signs imo
